How do you get two second life windows open so i can have two alts on at once on one computer? I used to know how but forgot what to type exactly. I know you make a shortcut to the viewer on your desk top. you go into preferences and type multiple and a dash and maybe something else in front of it.

Right click the icon that starts Second Life and pick "Properties".

The top line will say "Target". At the end of that address add a space and then -multiple, like this:

" -multiple" (without the quotation marks)

Ooops sorry about that. That's what us old people get for trying to do it from memory!

If you find that you start crashing after 10 to 15 minutes online with two accounts running; take and half you network setting in each window.

http://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/Client_parameters
has other fun parameters to use for quick automatic logins
I use
-multiple -noprobe -login <firstname> <lastname> <password>

don't use -login if you are on a shared computer, as anyone that can see the shortcut, can see the password.

Well that seemed to work but yes it bogs things down even worse.

Mine has only ever needed one hyphen. Two may work, but I've never tried it. I wonder why there are differences, or maybe it's either/or for us all.

Freebies, man -- freebies are the bomb

I have only ever spent money on two of my accounts - my original which I don't really use any more 9and darn it has tons of no-transfer clothing) and this account. The other two nabbed some freebies and that is all they get. Hell, they seldom are even allowed out of the house.

I just tested it with the Release Candidate, and it worked.

June, perhaps you failed to leave a space, typed multiple wrong, inserted a space between the dash and the M, added it to the wrong field, needed two dashes instead of one, etc.

Awesome. I didn't know that I could run two avi's at the same time. Just tried it out, worked fine. Thanks for the suggestion.

It used to only be single-dash, then someone pointed them at "getopt" which follows the GNU convention (single dash for single-character options, two dash for multi-character options*). I guess they now accept both ways.

* eg "tar -vxf file.tar" vs "tar --verbose --extract --file=file.tar".

PS: bringing more than two avatars into the same sim at the same time requires a bit more work.

I have tried this with both one and two -- dashes, It allows me to open the first window. But the second one reads

Error could not establish connection
error 3
please checck your network connection.

I have highspeed internet, and 4 gb, so i am not sure what i am doing wrong.

If you're behind a firewall router, turn off the packet filtering firewall and just use NAT.

I think you can also run two screens by going into advanced (CTRL+ALT+D) then Debug settings then choose allow multiple viewers from the drop down box and set it to true. This seems to work for me.

I actually use the emerald browser and it lets me do this without any issues. I have had both avatars going at once which is confusing for ppl who know both. Tee Hee!
