Latest Viewer Versions

Even though I *mostly* use an older viewer with an old Nicholaz, I do usually keep the latest releases downloaded and sometimes log in with one of them when I actually want a windlight picture or want to test something specific needing a newer viewer.

I haven't downloaded releases in a bit and have not kept up on the blogs about them, so I went to the download page and promptly got a tad confused. The *current* version is listed as 1.21.6, which might seem okay except that the Release Candidate is listed as 1.21.5. This makes the Release Candidate version OLDER than the Current version???

Another LL mess-up and they just forgot to remove the links for the Release Candidate after making 1.21 official? Or ???

Additionally, I can still log in with my 1.20.17 version - it does not force an upgrade. However, it does now seem to want to force an upgrade from the old 1.19.0.5 non-windlight and 1.19.1.4 windlight versions -- is that because of the security issue that came out a short while back? I know that when the security issue was first discovered and patched, they were not forcing upgrades from the two 1.19 versions, but that seems to have now changed for some reason.

1.20 was the forced update, because of the security patch, 1.21 is the newest official one, but isn't required at this time..

it's quite possible the RC client has a lower version, since it was built before the current public 1.21, and THAT may have some last minute (non critical) patches that the RC doesn't (at least the opening page says so when I don't auto login)...

The simple explanation is that there is just no RC out for the next series.

1.21.6 is the latest release, and 1.21.5 was an RC for that.

It's a little silly that they still offer the RC download for a series which now has an official release, but I guess they didn't want to redesign the download page.

ETA: And yes, they are forcing an upgrade due to the security risks found. LL has been coming down fairly hard and fast on security flaws lately. I figure that's part of their increased focus on business customers.
