Let me tell you what happened two days ago, and then tell me what you think.

I have a shop in the Astylus sim, which is an extremely good looking sim (for mainland). The whole atmosphere is natural and neighbours are mostly kind.

In the Riddings sim (next sim) there was a plot with lots of adds. Since it was close to my place I decided to clean it out. I IM-ed all the land owners and most of them were willing to sell their little 16sqms to me. I must say most WERE nice and didnt even ask outrageous amounts of money, some even donated the 16sqms!

One person however still has two 16sqms and uses them to put huge unnatural floating light emitting adds on them. (This person is on the arbor ban list and metioned a few times in this forum as well as beeing a very nasty sim owner. You dont want to do business with her. Lets just call her S and E to not break any forum rules)

Once I bought all the land around the parcels of S and E I IM-ed them to negotiate either a sale or to try to get them to scale down the adds to a more fitting size.

That got me muted.

Then I decided to box them in (I have all the land around the 16sqms). Thats the risk if you dont have roadside 16sqms right?

WRONG

She AR-ed me for harrassement and a linden removed my encasement giving the following reason: Every Resident has a right to live their Second Life. Deliberate and obstructive prim littering around anothers resident parcel is seen as harassment/disturbing the peace.

I appealed (and havent had an answer yet) saying its hard to believe anyone living their SecondLife on a 16sqm and that in fact E and S are the ones that are deliberately destroying the joy of others by their ugly adds.

Please tell me how you feel about this. I want to know what the community thinks about this.

Thx,

Mandy

Are these 16 sqm plots with the unsightly ads for sale?

Don't look to Linden Lab to ever do what is right or to see the big picture. Pretty much every scam artist and extortionist in SL has been allowed to get away clean. The mastermind behind Ginko walked away with over US$150K. To say this company has blind spots would be an understatement.

Frankly speaking.................I don`t see much change in the ad farms ri been seeing Abuse reports are doing nothing ........Why they might not be taking action is the amount of money lL is getting from those that own them One in mind i believe owns 1,000(s) and 1,000(s) of Real monies to LLABS.........

This post is irritating and vexing..I've had words with adfarmers before about having them landlocked and it being my right to place my prims on my land as high as they place their prims on their land.

They screamed and yelled and threw fits..threatened this or that but ultimately those 60 meter high trees are still boxing in their 16 ms. :)

So I'm curious as to why their rights were chosen over yours.

Consider the following image:

http://img208.imageshack.us/img208/1714/adfarmexamplesg6.jpg

[img=http://img208.imageshack.us/img208/1714/adfarmexamplesg6.th.jpg]

It represents a 3x3 block of 16m^2 parcels. The middle is some ugly ad farm. The eight surrounding parcels are owned by a single person. The red represents walls built on that land. What if those walls were:

a) phantom so as not to restrict movement from within the middle ad farm

and

b) textured full alpha on the inside so that you can "see out" with no problems from the middle ad farm

In my opinion, that should be perfectly legal. There's no overlapping prims on someone else's land. There's no view blocking of someone else's land. And, you've done more than you should have to accomodate the ad farm.

If you haven't done that but can do that, I suggest you try and see what happens.

Personally, I think totally surrounding someone's tiny little 16/32/whatever sqm plot should give the encaser the right to request forced sale at market value of the land to them. There are laws like this in RL for precisely the same reason; to prevent people from creating little "pockets" of land to abuse the surrounding landowner.

Those who want to keep their 16s would have to back it up to protected land, or keep more than one neighbor next to them.

There you go. Throw that back in the Linden's face... Sheesh.

1) IM her withdrawing any offer for her plot. Say you have decided to go into the advertising business. So the IM even if you are muted so that there is a SL record of your withdrawing any offer
2) Put up tasteful ads in the plots that you own. Subtle understated, well designed ones that don't scream at the neighbours. Think outside the box (so to speak).

It could be that even if LL are generally coming around to the realisation that there is a problem, strong vigilante action might fall foul of an AR. AN interpretation could have taken that you were trying to bully the person into selling you the land.

how was the encasement built praytell? That might be the crux of your problem,..did you devote seperate legal prims to each side of her land while remaining on your land?.. was the encasement a small part of a larger build? Was the purpose of the encasement obviously built to incase her in?

See..I think if you had decided to put some hedges up..((because they looked pretty right there ;) ) it would be open to interpretation what the purpose of those hedges were for...((right??)) and you would be able to appeal it.

I suggest placing hedges there..and yes make sure they're as high as her ads :)((see what LL decides then))

Hmm. Apparently an adfarmer by the name of R___ M__ hasn't quite grasped the anti-extortion thing well. His 16 sg. m. plots are *still* going for upwards of 5000L, but now it's banlines instead of ugly spinning crap.

I wonder something.. If you are in a group that owns part of the land surrounding it and you own land on the surrounding side and both sides ban, whose would the Lindens remove?

I'm pretty sure I'm facing the same island scammer at the Temple of Adfarming, http://slurl.com/secondlife/Dallows/239/205/37. So far, at least, no Linden has contacted me about removing the Temple or its associated megaprim tower (at various points, she and her alts and unsavory associates pushed her ads up to and above the cloud layer!). I'm guessing that it helps that the build surrounding her ads is fairly elaborate, makes a Free Speech statement, and the immediate surrounding prims are all phantom and full-alpha from the inside. Also, the parcel enveloping her plots doesn't have the Clocktower Probe, so she's not actually banned from the immediate vicinity.

As I've pointed out before in other threads, her "island pump-and-dump" scam relies on a steady supply of particularly clueless victims, so she's kind of dependent on the adplot model to draw in newbies and other residents dopey enough to click on one of those ads.

Ban lines are a lot more tolerable. Let's hope he chokes on his tier.

It's good to be a dog. :D

Yes, I can lift my leg and pee, but only if I can create objects on the land. Otherwise nothing comes out. :(

Of course my puddles are self-cleaning, so it doesn't stay. Really too bad, depending on what I'm trying to pee on.

Then again, that might be TMI. :o

At least it's Friday.

Mandy, would you like some 1 prim, 800meter tall towers to put around her plot? they wont go over the property line and are perfectly legal and then you wont have to look at the eagle crap

He's already been shedding land. The 300+sqm he had next to me was originally set for L$31000. He must have recently dumped it because Ninjaland bought it up and was selling it just about L$10/sqm. However, he still has 2 32s next to the road set for L$5555 and L$15111, respectively.

Now, if I could just get the donut amphibian guy to abandon all his 16s, and the other recalcitrant extortionists (like A.H. from P.L.) to relent, I can enjoy my mall and store in peace.

This is slightly off topic, however I stumbled across this ad earlier today.

"Tired of Mainland Adcutters"
"Come Live on A Private Tropical Island"

Maybe it's just me but I find this to be incredibly tacky. :(

Even better, it's probably an ad from one of the estate owners that cuts up mainland. Several of them purposefully ruin mainland to drive more people to their estates - even being as bold as to do it under their own names, not even trying to hide behind an alt. Did you see that ad on a 16 sq.m. lot, by chance?

Reminds of the person saying to come to their estate because the rent was VAT free.
