Why are some auctions listed in Lindens, and some are listed in US dollars? There doesn't seem to be a correlation between size and type, so I don't think that's it. If I bid on an auction, it doesn't make any difference whether it is Lindens, or in US dollars, does it? Or does it have something to do with you needing to have the Lindens on hand, as opposed to using a credit card to pay the US dollar auction after it ends?
And how much time do you have to pull together tier, and get other details in place, before you are expected to pay for it, and take possession?
Can it be purchased for a group, instead of an individual?

Only answer i have: No. I'm currently trying to get LL to help me with an issue caused by this as well.

There is a correllation. Bigger plots are USD. Smaller are in L$. I forget what size is the cut-off point.

The info I have may be out of date, but here's what I know from the previous auction system:
Generally, lot sizes over 4096m were auctioned in US$ while lots under 4096m were auctioned in L$ but there was some overlap on either side of that guideline.
In order to bid on the L$ auctions you must first have the L$ in your account -- in other words, if you want to bid L$50,000 you have to have that 50k in your account just to place the bid. I do not know if the same is true for the US auctions, i.e. if you have to have enough US$ credit on account to cover your bid.
Once an auction is won, you generally have a few days in which to pay for it. (They do not deduct the amount automatically, you have to go to a website and click something to effect the transfer of money.)
Finally, once the auction has been paid for, to actually claim the land you must go inworld and the parcel will be set up for sale to you for L$0. You can then buy the land for L$0 and that is how you take posession. I am 90% sure that you can buy for the group at this point, when you go through inworld 'buy land' process, just check the buy for group flag.

They do now deduct automatically, and you don't claim it, which causes my problem of tiering up.
Also, I bid more than I had, and when they deducted it set me to -3000 L$.
Land is auto-set to your name, no idea why. No more claiming, it just gets added to your account.

Oops! Well then, please disregard my post! I guess they've changed a lot more than just the web interface...

I asked the same things in the SL Land Answers group before winning my auction and got your answers.. they haven't updated info anywhere =(
But yeah.. the no-claim method led me to tier up when if I could've claimed it for my group i'd be fine.. I'm trying to get that undone lol... its evil.. and iono if there is a JIRA or anything for it but there should be...
