Heres how you get someones UUID from a IM.
1, Press Ctrl-Shift-4 2, Go to someones profile then select Instant Message (Say something like hello or anything you like) 3, Look for something in the mass list of words called: INFO: process_improved_im: session_id(*no need to read this*), from_id( *THERE UUID* ) 4, from_id contains there UUID 5, Write down there UUID then Press Ctrl-Shift-4 again to close it.
And there you go.
If your lazy and dont want todo this you can always goto w-hat.com but its not always usefull for new accounts.

This isn't an exploit. You can't do anything with a avatar UUID that you can't do with an avatar name. Avatar UUIDs aren't secret. There is no need for them to be secret. The small number of nasty things that you need a UUID for (e.g. IM harrassment or spam) are against the rules anyway and are bannable offenses no matter how you got the UUID. And the only reason that "needs" a UUID is that the programmers though a name to UUID lookup routine would be to heavy on the system. There exist a few third-party name to UUID lookup sites which LL has explicitly said "we don't and (legally) can't care about". My UUID is 365d7f06-99f4-4b98-97d2-dfdabf4eb952; knock yourselves out (but don't actually, because if you spam me, I'll report it which could result in your bannination and neither of us wants that). I hope that makes things a bit more clear.

Malachi I didn't see the original post as anything more than a helpful hint, and I don't know why you came down on the guy so hard. I didn't know you could get the UUID that way, and I think it's pretty nice- better than waiting for someone to come by and touch a keygetter or walk within sensor range.
My only personal disappointment with the original post was that, by the subject line, I thought it was going to reveal some heretofore unknown technical link between Second Life and There.com. >.>

From: Vicero Lambert And there you go. I do not take responsibility if you misuse this. That was why I came down hard. To me it read as if the OP was revealing an exploit, and upon reflection it still does. There was also a confused and troubled post the other day saying "someone says they got my UUID and can tell who my alts are from it" that was debunked. This is a recurring foolishness and I'd rather not have the next batch of newer players getting into a tizzy about it.

If you have an object of theirs (mod I guess), it's easier... default { state_entry() { llWhisper(0, (string)llGetObjectDetails(llGetKey(), [OBJECT_CREATOR]));}} (Oh, but you need the new voice version, that script won't work on the pre-voice viewer...)

There ARE scripts out there that use the UUID to pay money into someone's account, e.g. split pay vendors. I'm pretty sure they can't be used the other way round, to take money out; is this correct? Just asking, don't yell at me.

But only after they've agreed to the big yellow permission dialog box.

A script can only ask for permission to debit the account of the owner of the object the script is in. Your UUID is useless for this. They would need to give you an object that had the malicious script in it, and then you would have to rez (or wear) the object, and only then would you get a big yellow permission debit request box. There is no way for someone to request permission debit from you, using a script in an object they own. This is according to the LSL wiki and documentation. -Atashi

Yes, the only scripted way to take money is for the object to first request PERMISSION_DEBIT permission (the big yellow dialog box) from the object's owner. Objects can only request this permission from their owners. The only other ways that money leaves your account other than LL money sinks are for a user to explicitly use the Buy/Pay options on an object or to send people money directly. Those split-pay vendors you mentioned do have to ask the object owner for permission to pay out, but that's all.

From: Oryx Tempel DOH I forgot about the big yellow box. LOL! Does that use the UUID? guess it does but i think it`s pritty safe to say it`s hardcoded into the server so u can change to who it sends it to or else we`d have seen 100000000 posts of it being abused

Hasnt there been these times of "na na na" I know who you are bla bla bla for a while now? Frankly who cases .....Gesh those FBI nuts going around saying they have your UUID really should really should beling "Playing The Real Life Game". Frankly speaking if people need to do this they have way too much time to waste in their real life.

From: Oryx Tempel DOH I forgot about the big yellow box. LOL! Does that use the UUID? In a way... the script has to look up who its owner is to know whom to ask for permission, and it gets back a UUID. Also the LSL script function that gives money (the one that those scam objects use- the reason that we have the new yellow dialog) uses the owner UUID as well.

To clarify: it isn't possible for an object you don't own to take money from your account.

This is a recurring foolishness and I'd rather not have the next batch of newer players getting into a tizzy about it. I don't post much, but a read the forums a lot. And I see a few people whining about collecting avatar keys as being some sort of invasion of privacy, and to those who think that, I have this to say: "Get your head out of your *ss." I ran across two different groups of these SL police forces that gather keys on people, and sometimes use them to make notes on who the griefers are. I don't know if that makes them any more effective or not, but Woop-de-frickin-doo. Everytime I buy something or go into a store at all, some device is collecting my key information and noting my presence in a certain place, at certain time, on a certain date. And I'm fine with that. And people who aren't fine with that shouldn't be: * shopping * moving about in Second Life * logging on Because keys are public information, as well as anything anybody can get off a sensor or whatever in SL, because IT'S PUBLIC INFORMATION. It's not a secret, and SL would grind to a halt if people weren't allowed to gather that information. So people who get on on their little soapboxes and call other people who use UUID's griefers maybe need to look up a new online game that can only be accessed from Second Life. It's called Third Life, and it's for people who can't handle their first two.

You want to know what LL thinks of the UUID? Someday they are going to give us a llKey2Name function.
