This is very uncharacteristic of me in that Im a decision maker and generally take the lead when its time to move on some issue.
I put in a support ticket today.
Its not for support, its for turning off, throwing the switch, abandoning or what ever you wish to call it, my one and only light use open space that is connected to my 2 full prim islands that I paid 1700 us dollars each for back in Jan and Feb 2007.
This open space was purchased from the "new land" store when it reopened with the option to put an open space on the grid in seconds for owners, in March or April. It was purchased with the intent to be able to fly from one island to the other for when teleports were borked (sarcastic) or a place to float their boat. It has never been rented or had a someone living on it. It was used mostly by me for building (@ 1000m up)
Its going to be turned off in a couple of weeks when the tier comes due.
My Question is.
Should I wait to abandon it till after Jan 1 to see if maybe they revamp the deal again?
or
Should I just bite the bullet and turn it off.
edit 12/08/2008 open space turned off.......................poof

Personally, I'd wait.
And someone suggested putting the OS up for sale to see if someone may need to buy another to upgrade to a full sim, which is what I may do. On the other hand, I have someone interested in renting a half sim, so I may just upgrade mine, since I already own a full sim.

I say give it a fair shot and wait until after the new year. If it does get changed, you may regret dumping them, and it's only a couple months away.
Hang onto them for a couple more months, and unload after the new year if needed.

Should I just bite the bullet and turn it off. Depends if you want to waste anymore tier with LL i will put money on the deal not being changed from what LL have announced we had an ocean OS sim for the same purposes but cut it lose rather than give LL any more money on something we would be rid of a couple months later

At very least, offer it for sale for 120 bucks. After the transfer fee, you make 20 bucks. Also, anyone collecting 4 abandoned openspaces has the opportunity to consolidate to a standard region for a lot less than buying a new one (they can work with you a little on tier payment dates, obviously).
Also, transferring a region gives a free move and a free rename - that's 150 USD and 50 USD worth of fees right there - for only 100 USD transfer. Opportunity abounds.
Just like the Wall Street crash, anyone with cash or opportunity has a remarkable advantage in these times. Might as well see a little gain from that.

if it truly a void sim, then isn't it going to stay at the same tier, that is what I understand. That there is a sliding scale in place to gauge how OS is being used, and if it is too high then they will convert to a homestead sim. But from what I know OS isn't going anywhere. that is if it truly is just a waterway.

This is good advice, a few people I know have picked up very cheap OS's in order to complete their quartet so they can consoldate it into one regular island. Look at the current market for OS's and undercut the lower end prices and see if can't make a little bit of money after paying another months tier.

Wait wait wait.. If you are using the region as INTENTED then you can keep the region at the original price. But you have to submit a ticket NOW to make sure LL sees it and they investigate the region to see if indeed it is being used as intended. Sounds like the use you describe, is basicly what they intended it to be used for Taken from the blog. Letter from M Linden 1. We are going to retain the Openspaces product at its original price point and its original intended use (forest, water, etc.). We will have technical limitations to help regulate their use, initially avatar and prim limit restrictions, eventually event, classified and script limits. Those of you who chose to use the Openspaces as intended may stay at the US$75 rate, but will need to contact the concierge team to do so. http://blog.secondlife.com/2008/11/05/a-letter-to-second-life-residents/#more-2778 But if you are not going to continue to use it as intended then you better try and sell it. Don't put off putting in a ticket tho. I am sure they are slammed with them right now..

I agree, put it up for sale for a couple of months, after the new year is the time to decide if you want to dump it.

I suggest waiting through December - just in case. It won't cost you any more than yout current tier, and you'll get another month of what you wanted whilst waiting to see if there is any change. BUT >>>
Is my memory really bad? Isn't the only change to OpenSpace sims that the prims etc. are coming down? If the price is going up (I don't mean homesteads) then I've forgotten.

replying to my own thread:
I have listed it for sale in the land sales forum. 150usd and I pay the transfer fee. (there was no response)
Have offered it free to a couple of friends to combine with others for a full sim if they pay the fees involved in transfering. Apparently they are selling out completely....pffft
my useage: Its just for pleasure and tenant usage. And for a small time building things.
I'm not happy at the bait and switch, and the lowering the prim limits from 3750 to 750.
thank you to everyone so far for your words of wisdom.
