I Hate SLIM

I installed SLIM, ran the new viewer, started a new account with the Vivox people, and then I find out that A) I can't use SLIM to communicate with anybody unless THEY TOO are funning the new client, which most people aren't, and B) I can NO LONGER RECEIVE IM VOICE CALLS in-world. When somebody tries to IM voice call me, they get a message that I am not available. I guess IF I were running slim AT THAT MOMENT, and IF the person calling me ALSO had SLIM AND the new client, maybe I could receive their voice call THROUGH SLIM. But that's crazy. I want my voice IMs back like they were before.

The box called "Enable SLim" on the Register SLim page, will not let you uncheck it. You have to have either "Enable SLim" or "Enable Voice Mail" (which is worse) checked. You can't uncheck both.

I found a "contact" link on the Vivox site--not because they made it easy to find, mind you--and have written to them, but have received no reply 5 days later. This is a terrible way to run a railroad, Vivox and SL. There is NO support offered on the SLIM/Vivox page, and, though I haven't submitted a ticket to SL tech support, I have an idea I know what they'll say...since it's a third-party application and servers, I would have to go through Vivox to get support. I don't even want it fixed. I just want to be rid of it. I want them to unlink Vivox from my SL account. Has anybody else had this issue?

EDIT:

This is from the Knowledge base page on SLIM

>The alias mechanism also ensures that when the user is logged into the Second Life viewer, all presence, IM, and voice call requests for that user are directed to the SLVoice account, not to the SLim account. When the SLVoice account logs out, the alias is reversed, such that presence, IM and voice call requests initiated by either SLVoice or another SLim account may reach the user. In short, any time the viewer/SLVoice is active, all communications occur through the viewer -- if only the SLim client is active, communications may occur through it. Again, both applications may operate at the same time.

This is clearly NOT happening, to my account at least.

did you even consider that it is in beta testing stage and that the chances of there being issues with it are extremely high

try checking the jira and see if others are experiencing the same problem and if it was repairable and how

if you do not find any, post yours as a bug report... after all, using beta implies you are either wanting or willing to report bugs

(at least to me that is what it implies)

on a side note, I received a "voice mail" in my email from a person, and the voice mail is silent

not sure what happened LOL
