 i left 2 groups  but i'm still getting their group notices. like, 15 a week (from each!) someone please tell me how to make it stop! please.

Could it be messages from those update group things which don't affect your 25 group limit?
If so, I think you might have to revisit the place to click on the panel to unsubscribe.
Otherwise, sorry, haven't a clue apart from trotting out what everyone else suggests for any problem I experience - clear your cache.......... again!
