I am working on making some new AO's but I am having a really hard time, trying to decide how to go about it. Based on feedback from the last set of AO's I had made.. it is VERY hard to please everyone =/ Which do you prefer? please chose from the list or explain your thoughts if it isn't listed

Please, please, PLEASE make them priority 3 or less - that way I can refer my pet customers to you! Or at least give them the option to choose either way. And I think AOs should be no-transfer. It's something I'd want to copy into all my outfit folders.
And I personally, like laughing & typing and backflips. I have heard others do not.

Seeing typing is good... lets you know the other person is still alive, and hasn't crashed.

From: Oryx Tempel Seeing typing is good... lets you know the other person is still alive, and hasn't crashed. Yes and also makes conversations easier if someone can see the other is typing. I hadn't actually thought of this until I turned the typing animation off because I spend a lot of time a live music venues and got fed up typing a / in front of everything. Then realised it was pretty confusing in normal conversations, because people don't realise you're still typing. So now I turn it on and off..... grrrrrrr.

I actually like having the typing anim turned off .. I use chat bubbles though so I can see when someone is typing anyway.

There are 3 reasons to make an item no-copy/transfer: 1. So they can be gifts. This is easily fixed by using a server based update/gift/vendor system and creating a gift option/package. It's a tough call for something people sell a dozen different versions of, like shoes, but for an AO there;s usualy not 12 different versions.
2. So they can be resold after usage on 2nd hand markets This could be a valid argument for transfer, but i think an AO is kind of a hard thing to sell on a yardsale, as it's pretty tough to advertise. Also, most customers don't think about the option of how to get rid of it when buying an item in the first place.
3. So it can be refunded by returning the object to the creator. For most items like AOs/skins etc. the 'no refunds as it's no-transfer' seems to be fairly accepted. With mod items like AO's, a refund can be kind of a problem even on transfer, as a person with bad intentions could simply rip out all anims and give back the empty AO for a refund. Then use the anims in a freebie AO. Meaning it would require a complete check of every item returned.
So having the copyable advantage over the transfer advantage seems the better choice in this case.
On overriding the typing, laughing. Make it optional. It's a fairly simple script modification (depending on the way the anims are loaded/played though), and it only requires a second upload of the anims on a lower prio.

I chose other due to Wynx post above. Mainly is it possible to be able to set the priority the AO has? That is to be able to change it via notecard, or even HUD buttons from time to time.
Some do like the AO not interfering with things, Others like the AO to override some stuff.
Example, I like that my AO overrides a lot of other animations. Since the stands are a high pri, it "fixes" things when I get "stuck". However, I ripped the "Sit" aninimation out of it so that I do not have to turn off, or detach the AO to use a poseball set for dancing/sitting when out socializing. Hearing "AO on" and "AO off" all the time is annoying to me *Grins*
The typing doesn't matter to me. I turned it off via the Client menu anyway. HAving it in an AO might be good for those that don't use the menu interfaces, but I would highly suggest it as an on/off option if possible.
As for perms, definately Mod/Copy. With all the quirks in SL, the need to reset the scripts in an AO is imperative, or at least Copy so a backup can be stored in inventory. This also lets people mix and match custom animations to get the best look for them. This way you can sell the AO-Main (possibly with HUD) with a few animations, or maybe just a basic set, then sell the animations seperately and in packs as well.
The more options given to customers, the better the sales. One, because people can then get EXACLTY what they want, and Two, because they can, they spread advertisement by word of mouth.

Alright.. So here's my idea, before I make any more AO's, I wanted to figure out the best way to go about it. The best way to make the customers happy and hopefully not too many unhappy..
I can make an AO, package it... inside this package will be 2 NO TRANSFER AO's... one that doesn't override typing/laughing and one that does... this way the customer can chose which they prefer... however it would have to be NO TRANSFER, other wise they will basically be getting 2 AO's in which they could give away, sell or whatever, and I don't want that to happen... For those people that do not want it no transfer, I really don't have a solution for them, unless I just make two different versions and they can buy one or the other, but then that sucks for the people that like to have the option and would like typing/laughing to work sometimes but not all the time =/ I do not know if any way to script it to work differently, other than to make and upload the animations differently... Any suggestions?

Just please, please, don't make it so your avatar permanently stands like she wants a pee - or has ants in her pants.
I am sick to death of aos that make me wiggle all the time. Especially those where I suddenly stick my arm behind my head every few minutes.
I don't waggle about like a loon in real life - I don't like doing it in SL.
*gets off her soap box and remembers she used to make poses and animations and probably should go put her money where her mouth is and make her own then, lol*

I'd make two options, when I'm buying I always check to see if there are alternate options, then I spend the next hour weighing up which I'd prefer, if I'm convinced I'm going to like the item, I'd go for the no transfer and vice versa if I had any doubt about how long I'd use it for. However, I've only ever sold on a pair of boots, because most of the stuff I can do without is no transfer and it just sits in my inventory clogging space up.

There are times when I need our models not to do the laugh/type animations when in a pose, while I type in chat with them (although IM negates this), other times its a good thing when shooting a 'natural' scene, so having the option is cool. Making them MOD and Transfer is a good thing for us, as not all models are the same height, so in a duo pose, being able to adjust individual height is an advantage. Transfer, so we don't have to buy multiple poses for every model for a simple set of shoots, they can swap them between them. If we need more than one model in the shoot, both with the same pose, we buy more, or blue screen and overlay the movie.

What can one mod about an AO that adjusts for height? Is there some ability to adjust a mod-able animation's internal positioning? Or... what am I missing? (I'm assuming the AO itself is, well, an AO, like Franimation and its descendants--that is, an attachment, not something sat upon.)

I was referring directly to AO in the context of Pose Balls (as they are considered Animation Overriders as well), that are for couples animations... we have all seen how one couple is buried in the floor, while the partner is floating.. most are not MOD.. so adjusting for one, makes the other worse.

I don't like AOs that override my typing. Nor do I like an AO that halts my snapshot animation.
Also, for some reason, my AO won't let me sit down when I choose to 'sit.'
Lastly, my AO overrides my floating animation...I just stand there in the air.
It's the most expensive AO from Abramnations...I guess it's a touch buggy.

PLEASE ... PLEASE ... PLEASE ... make them copyable and no transfer.
on 2 different occasions, i have lost a rezzed AO in world (remember rezzing items and not being able to take them back into inventory? ... i sure can't forget it).
each time losing much more than L$2000 worth of animations. and it's not just the money, but the time involved in customizing my AO from various AO sets.
so please make them copyable. as for giving gifts, i have always been able to contact a seller and have an item sent to someone as a gift.

umm..don't think I voted correctly...so
I think it should be copyable and modifyable (so no transfer to protect yourself) because I've lost several AO's by putting them on the ground invisible and can't find the command to unhide it...
I think overriding the laughing is good, but not the typing. I like to know when someone is typing. I'm sure others feel differently so making that a choice would be good.

cresten, for future reference ...
ctrl+alt+T will make all your items visible.
also, all the AOs i have had all invisible on one side (go figure). i usually have to camera around to see it head-on.
