Attaching group gifts...total confusion

Hi folks,

Well, LL has me baffled me AGAIN.

I wanted to send out a group gift. Never done this before, so I set everything up, write the notice and prepare to attach the gift. The info box says, and I quote: "attached items must be copiable and transferable."

I must admit, this raised my eyebrows a bit, but I did as instructed and changed the perms.

To my horror (bloody good job only me and my alt are in this group atm) the resulting group gift was, quelle surprise, totally transferable and copiable.

WTF, Linden Labs? Or have I read this totally wrong and cocked it up somehow?

Either way, I'm left with a group I can't use now for 30 days, as naturally you can't delete past notices (again, what the gibbering feckers is tha all about?)

Good news for you, Group Notices disappear after 15 days now rather than 30.

Sadly, unless someone here knows a workaround that I haven't found, the gifts you send out WILL be both copy and transfer. That's why so many places send out an LM to a vendor when they are giving out group gifts, rather than attaching them.

Fortunately, for me, I actually don't much care whether the books I sometimes send out are copy and transfer (although most of my in-store books are just transfer), but it can certainly be a pain to anyone sending out anything that they might not want being passed around freely.

See if you can get a vendor that just gives out gifts to group members, or people wearing the group tag.

So only two weeks to wait until I can use my group? Well, better than four, I suppose..

I've just done a resend of a no-copy, no-trans attachment, and lo and behold it works just fine...so why the advice to send copy/trans items?

REALLY??

That's news to me. I've tried sending no copy items before, and it hasn't worked. I wonder if this is a change?

REALLY??

I remember getting group gifts from a latex place over a year ago that all had nocopy/notrans on them, the boxes as well as the contents, so I have no idea...

Weird. I've tried (unsuccessfully) to send no copy items more recently than that (i.e., probably 6 months ago). I'll have to fiddle with it and see what can be done now.

I don't know if any of this has helped the OP, but it's been potentially very instructive for me! :)

Doesn't that just mean the item must be copiable and transferrable for the person sending it?

to get no copy no xfer, one part ie the prim, has to be either copy or xfer, and something else, usually a script inside it, has to be the opposite

so... maybe if the prim is copy and the script is no copy, it lets you do that

(did your item have items in it, that has different settings)

because no copy no xfer is not possible without using that trick

Yes that's exactly it. The _sender_ needs to have copy and transfer permission to attach something to a group notice (can't send a no copy item to a whole group, and can't transfer what you can't transfer), but it's fine for the _next owner_ permissions to be more restrictive. Set up group notice attachments the same way you would to drop things into a scripted vendor.

So next time, rez the item, change the next owner permissions and then try to put that in the note card.

They mean you, the sender, need to have copy and transfer rights to the object you wanna set out. The next owner permissions can be whatever you set them too. I sended items in the past with no permikssions for the next owner and never had any issues with it.

At this moment, for me I have this since the 1.30 server, you sometimes get warnings. Often when I open a script or notecard with full perms, even ones I created myself, it tells me Insufficiant Permissions.

So keep trying if this happens.
