This article is funny. http://www.newsoftheworld.co.uk/news/168122/Lisa-Best-caught-husband-John-having-virtual-sex-with-a-man-while-in-bed-with-her.html(I think News Of The World's summarize-the-article URL's are hilarious, but never mind) From: someone “I couldn’t sleep a wink the rest of the night wondering whether this meant he was betraying me or not—that he’d rather have gay sex on Second Life than have sex with me.”
The next day distraught laundry worker Lisa logged on to John’s laptop after he’d gone to work. “To be honest, I wished I hadn’t,” she grimaced. He’d been taking picture postcards on Second Life of his avatar and sending them to his email address.
There's a couple of comments below the article, of the "omg shez so stoopd itz jus ta game get alife" variety, but I was under the impression that the majority of its players feel that Second Life does not technically qualify as a "game". In any case, yeah I think "John" is a dweeb. What do you guys think?

Well the pic they show is of him hugging a women the guy in the back is a new guy and we all know hoe they click and sit anywhere. I would guess there were problems well before he came to SL so maybe both need to get help and see where the issues were and not blame a game

Is that the UK equivalent of The Onion? It sure reads like it. If there's any lesson to be learned here, it's don't engage in internet hookups while sitting in bed next to your real life spouse.

But it's always so much easier to blame an outside source (in this case, Second Life) that deal with one's own issues, no?

Definitely............ and she isn't much better if she thinks that the social networking and SL are the problem. He's only become really hooked on SL in the past few months yet it seems the social networking has been going on for over 18 months in a 4-year marriage. Add to that the comment that the laptop is his life and it goes everywhere, including their bed. Yep, she is blind to the realities of their marriage. And I really take exception to the following statement: "But Second Life also has a seedier side where avatars can have virtual nookie with others anywhere they like—from swingers’ clubs to special orgy group nights and gay sex dungeons." None of that stuff is necessarily "seedy".

I think this woman has been in some kind of serious denial about her marriage for a very long time. It's understandable, that's a nasty truth to face - but even given the natural tendency to avoid dealing with the fact your marriage isn't working, this is one red flag that nobody could miss; in her own words: "Sex became less and less until in the end he just didn’t want it any more. In the past six months we only had it once—and that was after I pestered him for it."See, now, that would be real obvious to me. So, let's give her the benefit of whatever doubt there could be left, maybe she was blinding herself for the sake of the kids, who knows. So the no sex, no quality time, no time for the kids, no real interaction because he has his laptop virtually attached to him (no pun intended) - all that was ok with her. Then she see's his digital avatar simulating "sex" (and that's in quotations because she didn't mention that when she awoke to this scene that he was masturbating and somehow I think that if he was, she would have definitely mentioned it) with another male avatar. And that was what did it for her? That was the thing she just couldn't accept? So, the question is - while there is already some disagreement over whether or not SL sex is real sex or not, this incident further complicates the issue - is SL sex real sex if at least one of the partners is not even aroused? And, more importantly, why do we care?

Dude sure works fast for a guy who has been in SL less than a month.
It's probably for the best she finds out this way.
He's online now... Let's all go to Bondage Ranch.

I've regrettfully accepted the fact that the media will continue to characterize SL as "the role-playing game" until the end of time, or until SL gets so big that even reporters become SL regulars. Whichever comes first.
