Is there a LL sanctioned bank in SL to stash some lindens in? Myself and alt have a big enough pile now to hurt if ripped off by doing something stupid but I don't want to cash it out, just a savings bank here in game that is relatively secure.

Hi Shez, I'm not sure about a bank, but I've a friend who wanted to keep a L$ balance discrete and controlled. He created a "bank" alt. Basically an Alt which was never used except to accept and pay balances back and forth to his main accounts. It seems to work pretty well, and since he only allows his "bank" alt to pay his other alts the risk of a mistake is very small. Just an idea. Stephen PS. Seems the answer to your question is NO on the bank So it's a case of managing your money yourself. The "banker" alt seems a good idea, but I'm sure some of the other business people on the board will have constructive answers for you too. Good luck. |

Try Bank of Bradley. He's located on a beach somewhere... keeps moving around though.

Just throw it in the Lindex at a high sell rate, either you get a big wad of US$ for it, or its nice and safe.

Give me all your money and I'll stash it in my virtual matress. You can have it back anytime you need it. If you believe that I'll sell you an unflooded and undamaged house in New Orleans.
Actually I use the ALT trick my self. My alt is a member of my land group and holds all of my cash. "CX" _____________________

Shez, I don't know of any safe inworld banks and I would advise avoiding them. From what I have observed many people have lost their money after depositing it in 2nd life banks. The suggestion to make an alt to hold the money is good, as is just keeping it in your own account, or just cashing some out for US$'s.
Here is a link to the blog post in which LL banned most banking activity inworld: http://blog.secondlife.com/2008/01/08/new-policy-regarding-in-world-banks/ At the bottom of the post is a link to their banking FAQ. Congratulations on your prosperity! _____________________

Why is giving all one's money to an alt better/different from just keeping it one's own account?
Is it just the "burning a hole in my pocket" theory - the idea that if it's not on you, you won't spend it as quickly? _____________________

well splitting it up does make some sense.
If LL/SL has ANOTHER security breech, or some keylogger manages to get your PW, or whatever .. AT least theres a chance only one of your accounts gets hit. I'd suggest splitting it with the ALT though rather than funneling all money to an alt, since that Alt would just be vulnerable. While if it were split 50/50 you'd maximize your security by obscurity. (or Lottery w/e) |

In that aspect, it does make sense to use an alt. Before your explanation it always seemed a little bit like securing your money by moving it from the right pocket to the left pocket.

Personally I never let many L$ collect in my account before I turn them into US$ and put them in my rl credit union.

There is another option - create an account with SLExchange and put it there. They're way more trustworthy than any inworld "bank" and your lindens will be safe from accidental script oopses and such. You can withdraw it anytime too.

Shez: Just to be clear, there are no real Banks in SL. Linden Lab recently cracked down on banks and financial institutions.
Here is the LL blog post on the subject: http://blog.secondlife.com/2008/01/08/new-policy-regarding-in-world-banks/ I suppose that there may still be some 'banks' in-world, but personally I would steer clear of them. Take some of the advice scattered through the wisecracks above. ![]() _____________________

Well in my case I rarely use my alt unless she needs to do something.(Edit a configuration notecard in something she owns etc...) I'm an impulse shopper. I buy tons of useless crap that I never use. Having this extra step to go through to get to my money, helps out with that._____________________
