I hate to keep asking questions about land, but there still seems to be so much I don't understand. While shopping around I thought I found an island with parcels for sale really, not just the glorified (yet convenient) renting of the other islands. Is this possible? The about land pop-up kept saying "Owner: none / Estate Owner:none," and there was no covenant.
On the other hand, I also noticed the other island pop-ups were saying "There is no covenant, etc." for a while until the covenant eventually did show up due to lag. So maybe this island really does have an owner, but it's not showing. (I forgot to landmark, so I may never find it again anyway) This could make buying or renting very awkward. Has anyone else seen this sort of thing? Should I lay off trying to shop for land if the pop ups are compromised?

Disregard -- I've answered my own question. I'm currently in world sitting on a parcel trying to read the covenant, and it steadfastly refuses to show me anything but the last land I looked at with a different parcel name. Must be a bug.
/me looks to see if that first 3.5 floppy version of Doom is still around here somewhere. . .

Yep, I've had this. Found what I thought was a perfect piece of non-covenant land. Turned out to be a private estate with a price tag of L$1 mln and monthly frees in the thousands.
And you can never 'buy' private island land. Make sure you're looking at mainalnd if you really want to buy.
Good luck.
