After six peaceful months on a 512 in Harltey (Gaeta), I am having my first neighbor problem. He (and it could be a she, but we'll call it a he) is my neighbor on the east. I have had four eastern neighbors. The first was a furniture store that stupid newbie me thought was a shooting range. I did not know about the measurement pattern on prims. The furniture store disappeared while still unfinished. Then there was someone in the land business trying to sell that peace of land. Beyond them was one *** with ban lines and a bunch of vampires.
Now I have Mr. Baron for a neighbor (that's a pseudonym folks), and he put up a wall. It is a black, brick wall that totally blocks walking access on the eastern side of my land where I had nice trellis work and two gates as my property markers.
The black brick wall also blocks my view to the east at ground level. I have contacted Mr. Baron to ask him to at the very least make my side of the wall transparent. This is flat green land for sale, not someone's private residence. Better yet, the wall should be phantom (on both sides) and transparent on my side.
Ideally, there should be no wall there at all. If you are going to buy mainland for a private residence (or for a business) neighbors come with the package. Having a private residence next to you even if that residence is a slightly glowing green yurt with a mural of the life cycle of a bee on it, is actually an asset.
I realize Mr. Baron might not see it that way. I have sent him a note card (his preferred mode of communication) asking him to make my side of the wall transparent and possibly make the wall phantom as well.
I don't care if he thinks my build is an eyesore. I do wonder if putting up the wall is his way of putting pressure on me as the first move in a buy out. I'm not sure I want to move. Right now the only buy out deal I would accept is if I received enough cash to buy land elsewhere which means a buy out at a profit or alternatively a swap for another 512, preferably on Paulson (Continent #8 the one shaped like an ear). I no longer have foot access to RT 7, thanks to a neighbor two plots away's banlines. I would like to live closer to a road.
I have no idea how land barons think. Usually they just put up for sale signs and go about their business and I've gone about mine. This time it's different. Note: when my property had a wall next to it before, the neighbor built her store a meter or two inside her property giving me an alleyway that let me out on foot to the southeast. This time the wall is a complete obstruction at ground level.

I don't really understand what you are asking.

Abuse report the wall and note that you did ask him to make your side transparent. Sometimes the Governance team will send someone over and return the wall to him and send him a e-mail asking him to make your side transparent. Maybe write your request to him on a notecard entitled "Please make your Black Wall Transparent on my Side" and embed a alpha texture in the notecard (in case he does not have one). When he either accepts or declines the offer you then have documented timestamped evidence that you tried to communicate your concerns to him. Then try the Abuse Report Again and include the timestamp.

Mr. Baron accepted my note card and sent me one of his own. I think we may end up settling this without an AR. I won't know until my lunch break when I can get in world and read the note card.
I have a third option but it involves clearing and rearranging my property which is below grade on three sides and was open on the other. I can simply raise my land. This should make the wall low enough for me to leap. I suspect I have 4 meters above grade to play with. Terra forming would make an interesting project.

This is the home of one of my recent neighbors (actually someone to whom I sold a parcel of land when I tiered down). Actually an extremely nice item - just looks a bit odd at ground level on a water sim. The neighbor is nice so...yeah, what you said.

Iyoba you are doing the right thing with the notecard and I hope it works out. Have you considered a skybox? There are some really nice designs to choose from out there. Just leave your ground empty or maybe keep a nice fountain or junk car there if you like. From: Jojogirl Bailey The joys of mainland land ownership...i have owned mainland for quite awhile and so far have outlasted all my neighbors....stand fast and chances are he will be gone soon anyway. Ditto. Good neighbors and bad neighbors. They all go eventually. I’m starting my third year on Cosmet (mainland) and gone from 512m to more then 4700m. At Horowitz (another mainland) I’ve bought my neighbors out just to preserve what is an amazing view from my hill top home overlooking the ocean. But Cosmet was my First Land and I will keep it till they day I leave SL.

Iyoba,
If you can't work it out with your neighbor, please send me a LM. I'd like to have a look at the situation.

I'd just let everybody know that the matter was settled some time before my lunch break. The wall is completely gone too. I wish I could say more, but this is a public forum.

As an update to my post (just because I've been ill this week and bored)...
My home sim has been largely yellow on the map for a good year. Recently people have been purchasing land on the sim, including land around me that has been vacant for a long time.
In addition to the huge Steampunk airship from my previous post, on one side of me there is now a gazebo with a grand piano in it and on the same parcel but underwater, one of those Japanese "welcome" type posts. On the other side of me is another gazebo with a HUGE cat in front (if you've ever been to Greenies, about the size of the cat there) and it seems to move. (Will have to check out the designer on that....very unique.)
Mainland living can be interesting. *grins*

I'll just add that we ALL have an alpha texture: the Library has "Default Transparent Texture", which is dandy at turning one side of a wall completely transparent. (Congratulations to Iyoba on getting the problem solved.)

I have no idea how land barons think.
I'm glad you got this resolved, but I have to say: I don't think a successful land baron would ever have put up that wall in the first place. It's not a smart way to do business.

Get an alt to contact him in regards to buying the land, but playing dumb, haggle at a stupidly low offer, tell him it not wort what he's asking due to the ugly brick wall the neighbour has bordering it
