HELP! I just joined SL and my avatar, no matter what I do to her face, she looks ugly - not like the pretty avatars on the youtube videos. How can I get a pretty face and hair?

well if you cant make your own buy if you dont have money yet search for freebies
Sarah Nerd's Freebie Paradise and YadNi's junkyard comes to mind as a good place to start
use search button at bottom of screen

For a start go by the Free Dove and get a new shape, skin and hair. These will be better than you start with.

Next buy some Lindens. (SL money)

Shop for a new skin and hair. The shape you can buy or make your own depending on your talent. Always buy demos first, it will save you much money in the long run.

Buy some new clothes.

Hi, lulu, and welcome to Second Life

What you need to do, to begin with, is run around and grab some items that will help you to customise your avatar and give her some prettier looks. You need things like a shape, skin, hair and clothing. While you *can* buy these things inworld, there are plenty of freebies to set you on the road to looking great. Start with the tutorial here:

It will lead you around some of the freebie stores and walk you through everything. You can pick up more than the items suggested there, too, but she has the basics covered. The link at the bottom of the post will take you to the next post, which tells you how to put on the clothes, hair, skin, etc.

You'll get a lot of other suggestions from people here, too (who are probably faster typists than me and have beaten me to it already

) but that's my suggestion.

Getting a good shape isn't too difficult. Assuming you're female, from your name, start with the 'girl-next-door 'shape and make subtle modifiactions on the sliders until you get the shape you want. Then find a nice skin and 'wear' it and the improvement will be dramatic. You might need to readjust things a bit to make the most of the skin, but yo won't know that until you wear it!

If you catch the Hair Fair early in the morning, it's not so laggy. Also, instead of walking, try sitting on a prim and dragging your lazy butt around. It works soooo much better!

I have to say those free skins were HARD to find, but worth it. I'm addicted to these skins and apparently those freebies are not the ones on the wall for sale. I found 4 of the 5, which was fine since 2 of them are the colors I use. Also bought one more on sale since I was there. I'm a sucker for them
