I just created some framed artwork. I now need to know just how do I set it up in order to sell retail. I think I need some kind of money script, right?

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

No scripts needed. Simply display your work, and in the edit menu select it for sale and sell "copy" rather than original. Also change "left click action" to "buy" - then all a customer needs to do is left click on your artwork, pay the popup and it will be given to them.

Don't forget to make sure you set the perms as you want (eg No copy/No transfer etc) to stop it becoming a widely distributed "freebie" :)

Good luck with your venture.

A script isn't necessary, Dartagnan. Select the object and open the edit window. In the Options tab (click More if you don't see Options), check For Sale. Type in your price and choose either Copy or Contents.

"Copy" will give the purchaser the same object. "Contents" is often a better option. To use it, put a similar copy of the object in the Content tab. That way, the object shown for sale can have a different Title (like, "For Sale for only L$20";) and Description, and even have hover text (such as "right-click to purchase";); the object the purchaser receives can have something more appropriate in Name and Description. Also in Contents, you could include a Notecard (instructions, what else you have for sale, etc.), an LM to your place, or anything else you'd like the customer to have.

While you're at it, while working in Edit be sure to select the permissions you want the purchasers to have: Modify, Copy, and Transfer. Also, it's good to select Show in Search.

Edit: Ya beat me to it, Gomez.

just be warned that unscrupulous people will steal your textures if you just hang them out, so you should find a way to display them that disallows this possibilty. a multiple item vendor comes to mind, but i don't know enough about any of this to offer more advice than that.

also, once you have your stuff set up for sale, click the "show in search" button on each item so they show up individually on your html store page.

edit: Miles beat me to it. LOL

Thanks for the info.

However, ususally, when I buy something I automatically right click and then click "pay".
How do I do that here?

when you put something for sale, at the bottom left their is a drop-down menu that lets you choose what will show upon the click. you must make this change on each item individually.

Let's say you made a .tga file that's 512 x 512 pixels at 72 dpi.

1. Be on land you can create on. Rez a prim cube.
2. Make the prim the size that you think best suits the image you have, if the format is square keep it so.
3. For a 512 x 512 image it can be fairly large. so for example set the size of the prim in the edit window under the Object tab, make 'size' x = 1.5; y = 0.01; z = 1.5
4. Under the Texture tab, click the texture window and on the pop up window click 'Blank', click Select.
5. Still under same table click the Colour window, on this pop up window click the small black square. Now click Select. Now you have a completely black prim.
6. Open your inventory and find the image/texture you want, select it in the inventory and drag it on to one of the faces of the prim. Now the image is available as a prim to sell.
7. Back to the edit window. Select the General tab and on that window you will see permissions. Check the For Sale box, opposite the Price: L$ is activated, in the box type the amount you wish to sell for, the default is L$ 10.00. Then choose whether to sell unlimited copies 'copy' or just one copy 'original'
8. Below are the permissions you want the buyer to have 'Next owner can:', in this case you probably just need to check the following: 'copy';
9. However, you can give permissions for them to give away or resell at a later date, the box to check for this is obvious.
10. In the pop down tab at the very bottom, select 'Buy Object'. Now when anyone clicks the prim they will be able to buy a copy.
11. Place prim on a wall ready for sale.

The above are the very basic instructions on how to sell most singular items/objects/products/textures in SL

If you have set everything up correctly for sale, only you will see the 'take', for others at least it will be greyed out

Presumably not all three at the same time. ;) But also, it's good to make it a practice to always Take the object into inventory after setting permissions, and then rezzing it again before selling--especially if the object has Contents that have had permissions changed in Edit of their Properties. (At one point I think I understood the vagaries of the "slam bit" but that understanding has faded to superstition at this point. But Taking and re-rezzing makes it moot.)

Right, well, "Pay" (as opposed to "Buy";) does indeed require a script--one with a "money()" event handler. There are pros and cons to this. The downside is that it requires a script, so is (very slightly) more subject to lag interference (and, less slightly, the possibility of a script bug :p ). The upside, especially for an art-selling application, is that one could script it to distribute one-of-N original instances (or only N copies of an original) and then "sell out" so buyers would get individual, limited-edition prints. (Of course, they'd have to trust that the seller wasn't just "printing" more all the time, but that's a problem not unknown to RL, too.)

Thanks, I bought a frame maker HUD, however, this will come in handy when I start making my own frames.

Use a vendor
03-23-2008 10:25
You can also use a device called a vendor. There are free ones, and purchasable ones.

When you go shopping, you know those boxes with pictures on them, one big one in the middle, and smaller ones around the edges, and arrow keys? That's a vendor. You put your objects for sale in the vendor, and then put the vendor out.

As you add more and more items for sale, they just go in the vendor.

I saw these. I was wondering about them. If my inventory gets too big for the walls of the store, then I will probably use them.

Thanks for the info
