How do I copy IM's?

How do I copy IM's to a note or to another IM? I see lots doing this but have yet to get a good answer on exactly how to do it. Thanks
I did some research and it says that I can check off a box that allows me to turn on "log IM's"" yet those boxes are not enabled. How do I enable them?

Click and drag the mouse to copy the text or click the text and press Ctrl+A to copy it all.
Then, choose Copy from the Edit menu or press Ctrl+C.
To paste, choose Paste from the Edit menu or press Ctrl+V.

use your mouse to highlight the text you want to copy (click and drag),
then press Ctrl and C at the same time,
Click into the box you wish to put the copied material,
press Ctrl and V to paste.

It should now be copied into the IM box so just press send or hit the Enter key.

Thanks both of you that answers that. Now I read in the FAQ that you can also log IM's . I went to my startup screen to do so but the buttons are not enabled. How do I eneable them?

For some reason, you have to be logged in to enable them. Is that it? ^^

I think this would be in your preferences screen.
Not inworld now so trying to remember but can't lol. Try clicking through your tabs in the Preferences window. Look for an tick box (i think it is in the same tab as the text colours etc) saying record chat logs or somthing similar.

Log in. Then go to Edit/Preferences/Communication.

There's a check box to log chat, and another to log IM. You can also choose to display IMs in chat, but I think that gets too busy.

I also check enable timestamps. That way, if I have to use the logs as evidence in an Abuse Report, I have the times documented.
