recieving a strange IM - Anyone else?

About once a week, I get an IM from an AV whose name I do not recognize. The message is always the same:

Hi. This is Melissa.

I reply as soon as I recieve the IM, but get the message that the user is offline blah blah blah....

Thing is, I only know one person named Melissa, but I know she doesn't play Second Life, and she goes by Missy and since I haven't spoken to her in about 3 years, she'd have more to say than that.

So, who is Melissa? Why does she send me an IM then go offline? Anyone else hearing from Melissa?!?

Gee, I don't know anyone by that name ~*giggle*~

It was probably just a mistell. Someone in a laggy area double clicked the wrong name in a group list and crashed. Possibly she was sending an IM and the sim crashed so the IM/email service just delived the message to someone it thought was nice. If it was a one time thing I would not worry about it.

What color is the text?

Does it appear in a chat dialog or in the console text scrolling up the screen?

Do you see the first and last name of the avatar sending it or just the first name in the body of the message?

All good questions....I keep forgetting to get her AV name. It's a regular IM, just as if you IM'd me. Looks the same. She has a regular first and last name. I'll have to copy the name down if she does it again. The AV name is something like Omar something...starts with an O, four letters long.

Forget the kids - get yourself out of there.

For the original post - if you by chance have your chat/im logging turned on, you'll find a text file, of the same name as the avi, and it will have all of the IMs in there.

I had the same IM about a week ago. It was an offline and I didn't reply as I don't know the sender, or anyone called Melissa. Melissa-Bot seems very lost.
