A while back somebody posted this in another topic:

From: someone
I switched to the non-voice Nicholaz viewer a few weeks ago and love it -- noticeably reduced my incidents of freezes and crashes.

My one fear is that eventually LL will post a mandatory voice-enabled viewer update and I'll have to return to the LL version.

Now w/ the new official SL Client, that's supposedly mandatory, I got a few questions:

1. Are u still runnin the Nicholaz Edition?

2. Do ya have a link to a download of the SL Client you use w/ Nicholaz (1.18.5.3)? (Nicholaz is a patch, not a full Client, for folks who didn't know)

3. If ya use the Nicholaz Edition, then I'm assuming ya use the official 1.18.5.3 Client (LL).
I don't use voice myself, but I know there are 2 different versions of Nicholaz, one is voice-enabled, the other ain't. Which one of these do you run...and is it runnin smooth for ya?

This page has links to the 1.18.5.3 client and the Nicholaz patch.
It was still working last night.

The Nicholaz viewer should continue to work until LL changes the login scheme. That was supposed to happen last month, and is still planned, as far as I know, soon-ish.

My hacked viewer has been throwing a lot of unknown SIM status warnings into the debug window since the Havok4 update. Still runs, though.

Yes, the latest and greatest Nicholaz BE-v, based upon LL viewer 1.18.5.3 is voice enabled and still works great -- or at least it does when SL is not totally borked and I can get logged in.

This version is working fine for me on Mac OS X 10.4.11.

Henri Beauchamp's Cool Viewer (1.19.1.4) is now available for Mac if anyone is interested. I tried it last night and it seems to work OK but I'll stick with Nicholaz for now.

And a Windows version with Nicholaz's patches is available from Boy Lane here :)http://my.opera.com/boylane/blog/

(Which has been working wonderfully for me for weeks as I watch others crash around me... ;)) Just be sure to install it in the same directory as the right version of the Linden viewer so you don't have to copy over the "right files"? (I copied the older versions files and it crashed until I dl'd the new ones...)

omg omg omg!

From: someone
(From Nicholaz's blog)
Now third™ but not last, the following may come as a surprise to you. You can believe me, it came as much of a surprise to myself: Despite of what I said and thought I would do last week, and despite what I say above, the idea of looking at the recent memory leak kept bugging me (it seems that I still enjoy solving puzzles or I guess I'm just a pervert coder).

Last Friday I had downloaded the source code because I was looking for the asstachment fix (see above). Somehow one thing led to the other and before I knew I was looking at leak dumps. I swear I didn't intend to do it, really it was just an accident :-)

Well, I guess I don't need to mention the outcome *grins broadly*. Then, because a result like this is too good to go unused, especially for a guy with an ego as big as mine, more things led to one another ...

I'll spare you the details, but unless something goes very very wrong, you can expect the fruits of Friday night to appear at an Open Source (capital letters) outlet near you pretty soon.

PC, but he has associates who usually convert his work for Mac and Linux. I think he was primarily working on memory leaks for this release, but the blurry snapshots might be an issue with drivers, not SL itself...that's what it was when I had that problem. Nicholaz's viewer is not, strictly speaking, a full viewer. What you download are actually patches for the standard version, so you'd still need to have 1.19.1.4 installed.

My particular issue was with the Omega drivers...I'd been using them for several months because a number of people mentioned that they seemed to work better with SL. When I switched back to my card's standard drivers, the blurry pictures went away.

I know some Resident's have also had to roll back their drivers in order to get things working correctly with SL.
