Shapes and skins...there's a lot of info on making skins in the texturing forum. For shapes, you'd probably just play with the sliders.

I am bumping you to an 8.5 on the Official Trout Measuring Instrument of Sluttiness. You are an enigma - on the one hand a sweet, gentle, intelligent woman who we would like to wrap up in our arms and protect, and on the other, a temptress to whom we would like to do all sorts of unmentionable things.

Congratulations and shame on you! You are a bit of a slut.

Hi Own,

I do shapes in SL and quite a few custom jobs....but the key to getting an avatar to really resemble a person is to combine shape/skin/hair & eyes.
Basic body form and facial structure can be done easily with sliders....but a well detailed skin will enhance the 2D features. With females this is more obvious as different makeups and shading can dramatically change the look of a face on a single shape. If you'd like some help creating a look, IM me in-world. I'm always happy to help folks with creating a unique avatar.

*shudders and feels a bit ill*

We are talking about Bill and not Hillary? Because the latter just isn't even remotely possible.

To make an avatar that looks like you, you might try the CyberExtruder folks at Avatar Island. They work from a set of photos to make your face, then I think they do the regular slider thing for the body.

I just noticed that IC skins is offering a similar service, however it looks like they will do the whole body if you provide a set of pics.

P.S. Somebody PLEASE go to IC skins and buy their Matt Damon skin/shape, they don't provide a demo and I really really think it would be cool to go dancin with Matt!

Man - you're really asking two entirely different questions there!

OK - sexy avatar: you can edit your shape as much as you want to get a shape that you think is sexy, or you can buy a shape that you like and wear it if you don't want to mess with doing it yourself. I sort of enjoy messing with mine. The best way I've found is to start with one of the default shapes that is reasonably close to what you want and just fiddle with it until you like it. For a skin, unless you're really good with a third party graphics program, I would buy one. They aren't easy to make. Make sure you buy a demo first - they are usually 1L, so it's no big deal. The skin may look entirely different on your shape than it does in the pictures.

Bill/Hillary Clinton or Geo. Bush avatar. Why, oh why, would you want to do this? Anyway, go to Avatar Island. I think there was someone there who was making skins based on people's real life pictures and they looked very good. I wouldn't try this on my own. Maybe try a search to see if anyone is selling these in SL. Good luck.

How much does Matt cost? And is it any good? My first skin/shape was Sean Connery, but apparently no one noticed. Or cared.

He costs L$3000, and I'm thinking there MUST be a demo, I just must have missed it. Hard to tell if it's any good from the pics ... I tried on one of their female celebrities, and it looked like that one was just done from head shots, because the photoreal face seemed kind of pasted on a very nice painted body skin.

But the pics seemed to imply that the Matt avatar was taken from full-body pics.

Which I imagine means that it was done with Mr. Damon's consent, which might be true since IC skins is next door to the SL Shakespearean company.

Sooooo .... does that mean the next noob I run into might BE Matt Damon? *swoons*

My impression from visiting the Shakespearean company is that IC might have made the avatars used by the Shakespearean company. Or at least the eyes, though my impression was that they made the avatars also.

I'll see what Matt looks like. I do need things to do while in Second Life. :)

Warning:
1) I am not Matt Damon.
2) I have no real reason to believe that the avatar was made with Damon's consent.
3) I have seen many huge stores in Second Life that use logos without providing proof they have permission to do so, like the place that sells NFL/MLB/sports clothing and furniture that I ran across the other day.

Cartboy Kitchensink makes sculptie faces/masks that look identical to the 'famous' person it mimics...and their mouths move when they talk too. Very impressive. A friend of mine, very talented.

He has a few dozen famous people already.

Wow, I was wondering if anyone was doing that with sculpties. I'd love to see some of his work.
