Got chatting to someone yesterday and they were talking about a type of bot that zooms about looking for objects that are set for sale, then gobbles them up?

umm is this true? and if so...who owns these things? and whyyy do they do it?

Gobbles them up? Erm, I'm not really sure what is meant by that in the context of a bot. Was it a spherical yellow bot with a large mouth making a "wakka wakka wakka" sort of noise?

Well, you can't just "take" objects, whether you're a bot or not. Except, I suppose, if somebody sets something to "sell original" with a price of L$0, but that's not really very common.

He may have garbled the facts.

There IS a searchbot that looks for items set "for sale" and lists them on a website somewhere (OnRez? I forget exactly where).

The bot itself doesn't steal stuff, but if you have something set for sale at a low price, someone could find it and run to buy it.

I'm to the point where I wish someone would market a bot that was programed CORRECTLY!

We're not going to get rid of them, but some of them out there are just programed WAY wrong. Had one at a store I look after and it had everything (and I do mean EVERYthing) on the island selected at once (view in the About Land, Objects tab showed 13000+ prims selected.) Lag was incredibly bad. Banned the bot (to the user's credit, the profile said it was a bot, and told anyone to ban it if they had trouble with it) and lag went away instantly.

So while the program running the bot may not cause lag, the WAY the program runs the bot sure as heck can. I know some are using them responsibly, but there are more that are abusing them. More through ignorance than setting out to do so.

You know we have had bad lag at the sims im on..and the one especially where this woman said these bots come too...i think i might now know why
