Hello everyone.
I have a big problem. I own a small plot of land. On my little plot I have a store which gets pretty good traffic. A neighbor bought a plot of land next to mine and set up shop, which I thought would be nice. But then, the owner set up one of those notecard dispensers, which automatically hands out a note card and landmark to each and every person who walks into his store. The problem? He has it set to hand out the notecard and landmark to EVERYONE who enters MY store also. I get IMs from my customers about it all the time and it is getting very annoying. I've sent him IMs and dropped notecards on his avatar asking him to turn off the notecard script, with no answer. It has been almost a month now. I've also reported it as SPAM to LL, but so far my customers still get spammed each and every time they come by. Even I get spammed in my own store every time I stop in to change something or check in.
I OWN this land. Is there not any way to stop others from spamming MY land with THEIR notecards? What can I do!? Help and thanks!
Pan

Your land is totally separate right?
Firstly talk to the store owner, it may be an accident or something which needs more configuration. The nice approach is always the best first one.
If that doesn't work ... AR him and get your friends to visit your store and if they are also spammed on your land they should AR too. Multiple ARs are always more effective than just one person.

Theres nothing you can do other than send in an abuse report and hope someone reads it. that is if you are in mainland, on a private estate you might try complaining to the estate owner.

Sorry should have said to ask your customers to AR it too, if cannot be solved amicably.

Sounds like you've already tried the talking approach, but is there a chance the neighbor doesn't understand English?
Technically, it's very easy for it to be fixed, either by shortening the radius of the sensor used to detect recipients of the notecards, or by replacing that sensor with a phantom, "llVolumeDetect" prim with which the recipients collide when they enter the store. But if the neighbor won't change it despite understanding what you're asking, then the suggested multiple ARs may get the Lindens to act for you.
In the meantime... could move your store vertically out of range of the neighbor's sensor, but that's a lot of work, and might even compromise the AR resolution.

Your neighbor may not be aware that his notecard dispenser is giving out notecards to your customers. If he is not well-versed in Second Life scripting, he might be surprised to find that a script running on his land could act upon others' land.
Edit: Never mind, your neighbor has been absent a month. Abuse reports from multiple sources if you are mainland; ask for help from your estate owner if you are not mainland.

I everyone and thanks.
Yes, my shop is on mainland and I own the land. It seems really weird that someone can spam your land. There is no way to block people from doing this? Yes, I have sent him several notecards and IMs and all the writing in his store is in English, so I'm sure he understands. Seems like abuse. Oh well. Thanks!

He may have an invisible prim that stretches into your land. This prim has the notecard giver script. See if you see an overlapping prim when you highlight transparent.

I hate to be the start of a war, but maybe you should put a sign up that says, "We do not give out notecards unless you touch something. If you receive a note card without touching, please AR it."
Enough people AR it, then LL will do something about it.

What if you turn off scripts in your About Land, wouldn't that solve the problem?

Yep, quite right. And if by chance the (whole) parcel is rented, or group-owned without the permission to deed the scripted object, there's llGetLandOwnerAt (if "good" and "bad" parcels have different owners), or failing that, the relatively shiny llGetParcelDetails, some result of which should be enough to identify whether llDetectedPos is of interest. (But [edit: Sindy +]Void still wins, cuz I was too lazy to clean up my mess till now. )

Try adding the owner to your ban list on your land.
I had a problem with a store next to mine that has a lot of magic chairs and they were shouting a new letter every few minutes.
I placed the owner in my ban list and the shouts can no longer be heard by me or anyone else who visits my land.

I had that happen too
12-08-2007 21:43
I had that happen too and it was also deliberate. The guy was trying to run my GF out of business.
What I had to do--was get a greeter of my own and start giving landmarks to his customers-------that is the only way I could stop him. He was a real jerk about it. He would not turn it off or set the range lower--saying he could do what ever he wanted.
The funny part is he is now out of business and trying to sell his land. So sometimes there is justice.
Good luck!
