I've been having a problem recently where forum tags don't seem to work for me any more. You know, the URL tag etc, I see them all as text. How can I solve this? It just stopped working a while ago and I don't know why

bbcoding has been borked for months. rumor has it that LL does not care about these forums, nor do they wish to maintain them any more. I would say this is one of their "mistakes" that ginsu is talking about on the blog.

If you're using Firefox, look at this thread: http://forums.secondlife.com/showthread.php?t=188445

This sort of brings back bbcodes. A work of genius, IMO.

If you want to display a picture or link an URL, you can do both with the IMG tag. Bold, Italics, etc. tags don't work.

The Jira bug report on the matter is WEB-156 if you would like to vote for it.

https://jira.secondlife.com/browse/WEB-156

Personally I have gotten so sick of it that I started my own scripting forum, specifically so that people could post code there, because it is almost impossible to read unformatted code... http://ordinalmalaprop.com/forum/ if anyone is interested.

...but remember that this doesn't work on all browsers. Ones where it doesn't work will show a broken image picture rather than the text.

The seems to still work, too.

That's bizarre! I'm sure it used to work, why does it no longer? I wrote my own forum system a few months back and it simply grabbed the text to display from the database, changed any entries of < or > to < and > and then changed certain bbcode into the associated HTML tags that it's supposed to and it works a treat, all on the server side and therefore independent of browser. I can't see why any fool would make a forum that doesn't work like that. Thanks for the tip, I'd rather just not see the code properly than start installing extensions to make it work how it already should.

Poor form on the part of vBulletin though, poor form indeed!

One popular theory is that there's a phishing exploit near the url tags and LL smacked a big chunk of forum formatting because of that.

I don't know if I mentioned this before but you have the best SL name I've seen so far.

Meade is right. Although the IMG tag is a quick fix for some browsers, it actually completely hides the link in others. And if you go back and edit your post, it will try to URL the link and that messes it up even worse. Best to just do things the normal way, and let viewers choose their preferred way to make links linkable (like Strife's Greasemonkey script).
