Multiple Slurls on one map?

I'm trying to come up with a way to connect RL locations of people (google maps) with SL locations. At a minimum, I'd be happy with two seperate maps. Right now I have a google map that is populated by a form and you can see everyones location with a push pin.

I'd like to also have a SLURL type map where the same people can type in their SL location, and all pop up on the same SL map. Make my happy holiday and tell me someone has already come up with this concept!

So the basic question is, can you create a SL map with multiple locations for teleport?

Thank you and have a happy new year!

Mostly just a *bump* to keep this on the front page of threads.

You know about http://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/Map_API and http://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/Map_API_Advanced_Examples, right? I've never worked with it myself, but folks have claimed success using that Map API. If the objective is to populate a web map of some SL geography with multiple markers for the locations of agents, that would seem doable.

What gets a bit trickier is being able to do much with that in-world. It's possible right now to show that web map on a media-textured prim; a script in the prim could gather (say) llDetectedTouchUV() events and map those to the nearest target, where the target list is somehow shared between the touch-handling script and the web app (not sure who tells whom; not sure whence the agent locations are collected initially).

Of course, if the background map is more or less static and just the markers move around, and if there aren't that many, it would be pretty easy for a script to move marker prims around on the map, label them with hovertext, respond when they're touched, etc.

I'll take a look at that and see what I can figure out. You definitely have a greater handle on this than I do...

You mentioned scripting a map in world (which is an excellent idea and I can conceieve how that would be done), but for now I am more interested in a map on a website. Would the API do that?

Hmmm. Looks like I need to up my skills if I want to work on this on my own. Any other suggestions are much appreciated.

Thank you!

Since I haven't had much of a response to this question, can I guess that the answer is no?

There isn't a way to view multiple SLURLS, or have multiple marks on a current SL map on a webpage?

The maps are all available from Amazon and your individual's SL positions can be updated regularly using llHTTPRequest(). Almost all of your website work will need to be done in PHP or similar, however, so it's a bit outside the scope of the forums.

One major question is - how much of SL will you be covering? If everyone you're concerned with is within a single sim then it's hardly worth the effort. At the other extreme, where people are spread across the whole of SL, then how will you make if clear who is where? How many people are you talking about?

So, the answer is yes.
