I just had a clean OS installed, reinstalled SL and now when I log in most textures are extremely slow to rez if at all. I tried clearing my cache, turned off palletizing texures and rebaked. Nothing worked. I logged in after that and part of my hair was grey as were my boots and even part of my AO HUD. I just tried logging in again and I was just a poof of white smoke until I logged off. Any ideas what the problem could be?

Firewall settings? High user count? (currently online: 75 k) Bad network connection? Modem/router not set up correctly after the reinstall?

A lot of us have been having problems with the recent iterations of the SL viewer. I suffered from almost complete failure of area textures to self render. Prims rezzed fine but 60-90 percent of textures would not self render and had to be force rendered by placing the cursor over them to prioritize them for the viewer. I cleared cache, deleted cache, cleared web cache, toggled bandwidth settings and played with graphics settings and nothing helped even though I have 4GB of RAM and an Nvidia GeForce 9800M GTS with up to date drivers. Finally after posting in a thread in the Release Candidate Viewer forum where others were having similar problems, at someone's suggestion I tried the latest RC viewer and it solved the problem and rendered and rezzed regions faster than ever previously experienced. Then at someone else's suggestion I tried the Kristen Viewer with the same or perhaps even better results as well as having several extra feautures. SL is once again enjoyable. I recommend you try either of these viewers. Good luck.

I can't seem to get anti-aliasing to work in Kirsten's viewer, and my custom Windlight settings don't look right in the RC .... so .... I'm back to SL's 1.21.6. No real problems though.

I'm sure some Linden will say there's no problem....everything is working as it should be......so it must be your computer.......internet provider.....but it's defenitely not SL's problem.......

There has been a long and detailed analysis of this over the past month on the Jira and here in the Forums.

To summarize:

Try the 1.22.6 RC(6) viewer instead of the standard one.

Start with graphics settings and bandwidth set low (ctl-P), and if things seem good, increase them little by little.

I have the slow rezzing textures problem in 1.2.1.6

Nicolaz eye candy edition is fast, but I can't get AA to work in it, everything is jaggy.
With Kirstens viewer S16 I find I crash within 10 seconds to 1 minute, it is very unstable, though I understood that the KV was supposed to be very stable. Not for me

I also tried CoolViewer which some people had sucess with, I found it faster, but not very.

I reverted to the 1.20 client and textures are loading fast for me again, thank God. The load times were really getting me down, I was getting to the point of giving up SL till they fixed it.

I haven't tested the 1.22 RC for speed
