live365 forwards you to their streams via DNS and javascript apps, which is not how SL connects to streams.

SL supports URL and port number, or a DNS forwarded link provided it is an MPG stream only.

Windows Media types such as .asf, .asx etc are not supported.

It depends on the stream. If the station is on one of Live's pro packages then it would work. They don't require logins (afaik). For any regular Live365 stream (the vast vast majority), they can only be launched from Live's website and require username and password (even for free listeners). In that case, even if you copy and paste the URL from winamp that includes the username and password, it'll break as soon as more than one person is on the parcel and Live's servers see more than one IP address under the same login.

You could always set up a Shoutcast server and use it as a relay so that people on your parcel are connecting to your server instead of Live's. I've done that now and then with my station, but I don't have the bandwidth to support more than half a dozen listeners at a crappy bitrate.

As with so many things that are borked in online music, you can blame the RIAA. The requirement that all connections to basic Live365 streams (not Pro one) have to come through the web site is part of the license terms that they insisted on. LoudCity has the same problem.
