Can't remove my hair!

I've just started playing this and I've got a quick question. I'm having some issues with my hair. I've just started editing my appearance, and noticed that when I try to edit my hair (City Male) it doesn't change color or increase in length. Its almost like I'm wearing a wig with my hair underneath it. How do I get to where I can edit it? Thanks!

There are two kinds of hair in SL - there is the mesh hair that is a part of your avatar, and prim hair that attaches as a separate object.

The "edit appearance" sliders adjust only the former - the mesh hair.

Prim hair is more complicated to adjust; prims can only be adjusted if their creator has given "mod" permissions, and you edit them using the edit interface, which you can get to buy right-clicking on the hair and selecting "edit".

It sounds to me like you are wearing prim hair over your mesh hair. You can try right-clicking on your hair and selecting "detach" to remove the prim hair. That will leave only the mesh hair which you should be able to adjust using the "edit appearance" sliders.

Later, if you find some other nice prim hair that you want to wear, you might have to set the mesh hair sliders all to zero to make the mesh hair go away, or put on a "bald hair base" (which often comes with prim hair) that will essentially do the same thing.

I hope this helps!

So your final Nimbus Score is 8.15, a quite remarkable achievement for a biped. Congratulations Crunch, you should be very proud. :-)

Ok, thanks for the info. I just contacted my wife and she removed the City Girl puff hairstyle on her character, a female, and underneath was really short, cropped, black hair. She tried to edit this, and mesh hair grew on top of it but the short black hair could not be edited or removed. She's tried to find other hair styles that might be installed, but has yet find anything. There is Hair (that can't be removed) in BodyParts but nothing in Worn objects. Any ideas about this?

*blinks back little nostalgic tears*

I have over 2000 posts here and my first one was very like yours, Guiness! Welcome to the forums!

If you look in your inventory, "mesh" hair like what Madhu is talking about will have a little brown hair icon, and "prim" hair will have a box icon. If you type "Worn" into the search bar in your inventory, it will show you everything you're wearing. All "mesh" hair can be adjusted with sliders in Edit Appearance mode; prim hair cannot.

Again as Madhu said, the only "mesh" hair that should be worn along with "prim" hair is a bald cap.

Oh, and my early post? Tinkerbell hair:

This is yet a third type of hair that I completely neglected in my previous post - hair that is "painted" on the skin. The only way to remove this is to wear a different skin. Skins are available from many vendors in-world, and a lot of them have free (or $1L) skins available for young avatars. Sin Skins is one that I know of; you can search for others.

This post would have saved me a great deal of trouble when I was new to SL. I was so flummoxed by this problem, even submitted a support ticket, that I eventually gave up and started a new account. Just as well, as I love being Nimue.

Welcome Guinness!!

Boy do I remember those days, and it wasn't that long ago. Changing skins will help as well getting a bald cap before putting on a new hair style. You can do a search for freebies and this will help get you started - and welcome to SL!! If you guys still need any help, feel free to IM me in-world. I would love to help any way I can. I know SOME (not all) aren't too friendly with Newbies - *personal experience* - I am working on a care package for newbies in hopes some of my RL friends join in - yea right - I don't have much yet, but could help point you in the right direction!

Haha. Thanks so much people. My problem was that my skin did have it painted on. I tried for hours last night attempting to get that stuff off, removed everything in my inventory could. I changed the skin, and boom, it works. Thanks so much!

Have you wore a box by accident yet? You won't officially be a sl resident 'til you do.

Not yet, but as I explore I'm sure there'll probably come a time.

It really isn't very intuitive, is it? I had the same hair issue (and the same City Chic hair as your wife!). I also put on a freebie skin that had tattoos, and couldn't figure out how to get them off! Trial and error. I wonder how many people leave SL because none of this is intuitive?
