How do you create skins like the ones you buy at stores, for $500+ or more.

I have asked how to do this by residents. Everyone is afraid I will make them lose money if I learn and do it on my own. But really with several million clients, why not be helpful. I want this for my own personal use. I got those template and photoshop, but really need help on doing it on my own. I am tired of not finding what I want on sl, and the ones that come close are $2000. Or can anyone work with me????????
Also how to start a business, so you can sell like t-shirts, and stuff in resell boxes.

You practice a LOT for a LONG time. There is no magic wand to make great skins. Anything that is good takes time and effort. I'd suggest checking down in Texturing Tips for starter tips.

There is nothing in photoshop that says how to create skin for sl and save it to sl ext. I am confused. But why buy something when it can be created the way you want it. See, I get no help. I dont want to take money away from ppl. Just express myself.

It's one of the hardest things to do in SL in my opinion.. clothes are hard as hell, skins are impossible. Takes literally hundreds, maybe thousands of hours to make a quality one and you have to be GREAT at photoshop or w/e

What you will be doing is creating Targa files in photoshop and uploading them to Second Life. Here is an awesome forum link that explains all about Texturing. When I first started I read through every single sticky available. It will help explain both Photoshop and the entire SL skin/clothing idea. /109/1.html

From: Raven Dallagio I am confused. But why buy something when it can be created the way you want it. Because most people don't have the time or drive to do it. To make it the way you want it. if its not cartoony.. you'll get frustrated. Often. Very often. Constantly.

Also how to start a business, so you can sell like t-shirts, and stuff in resell boxes. It's not because they are afraid you'll make them lose money, Raven. Lots of people start trying to learn to make skins and stop. The fact that you don't seem to know the basics of Photoshop says a lot. It would take hours and hours for someone to teach you how to create a skin. What you need to do is learn how to use Photoshop and do some graphic designing. ALOT. Once you do that then you will have a better understanding of how to make skins from the templets that exist and you will be able to ask questions that wont require someone spend a full day trying to answer for you. Good luck if you decide to go ahead and learn to make skins. It probably is the hardest thing in SL to create and will take a very long time to create a good one.

I see you posted your question in the Texturing forums as well. There's already a ton of information on skinning in there, so if you haven't already, you might gird your loins and do a bit of reading.

The other thing I must add is that I have found virtually everyone in SL extremely helpful in helping me to learn how to create. It is usually helpful by asking pleasantly and not being accusatory in the question.

It hard just do a t-shirt texture right there lot to know before I ever get to a skin personally. It takes a lot of persistance, patience, know how, reading, knowing where to put what where, Artistic skill and knowledge of how to use the art tools, from what I gather you need more then just PS you need understand know how to use 3d modeling programs or at least able to think in 3d and working knowledge of how avatars do what they look like and function.. I can draw and be very creative. I do allot of textures and art work. I rarely borrow images for my textures but even I am not there with how to do skins yet. There is whole lot here that is very complex. Biggest thing is how to find the information and comprehend what you're reading. I have major problems with this. I figure others do. Some of us get crankier when things aren't working out. When I get like that and impatient I have to remind myself there is lot of people who just don't always the answers we or I am seeking or easy ways to explain what we're/I am looking for, they are struggling too with their own stuff often may not have time to explain or even know how.. That I need to chill and focus on small things first. Like how to search for information and understand what it is I am looking for. There is just whole lot more to learn for me personally just in how to do building, plant, fabric and clothing textures first at least for me just with Art programs I do have first before moving on to 3d programs and shapes like Skinning.

Yes, this approach doesn't seem to be wowing the texturing peeps so far...
Some suggestions: Ask for help, do not demand it. Say please and thank you. Do not blow a head gasket if it takes more than 5 minutes to get a response. Finally, do a little research for yourself, rather than expecting the answers to be handed to you on a silver platter.
