From: Jarred Tammas How do you type coloured text in chat? Thanks It depends on how the receiver/listener has their preferences set up.

From: Chris Norse It depends on how the receiver/listener has their preferences set up. Well, sometimes I'll see someone type in yellow or green. Usually it's white. I know some scripts will do different colours.

There is a prank script incorporated into a number of products that will allow someone to type in chat using your name as if it was you - but the name and text are colored green. Something to be aware of. ; )

From: Jarred Tammas Well, sometimes I'll see someone type in yellow or green. Usually it's white. I know some scripts will do different colours. The green and yellow are objects and owner chats. White is the default for normal AV chat. Go to preferences and the text chat tab. There you will see how you can set up your chat colors.

Chat text is colored based on the source of the text, using colors that are set in your preferences. You can see the colors you have set on the Text Chat tab of preferences. In particular, general text from objects defaults to green and text directed to the owner of an object defaults to cyan. You can change these colors for yourself, but not for others.
When you see green text, you'll see the name of the object that produced it. But since there's no constraint on object names, it's perfectly possible to create an object that has the same name as an avatar (any name, not just yours). When such an object speaks, the content of the text will be just as if the actual avatar had typed it, but it will be in a different color. This, by the way, is part of the security, so that you know that green text may not be from whom it says it is from.
The Mystitool HUD has a mimic feature that does this, letting you choose any of the nearby avatars to mimic. Presumably it rezzes an invisible, temporary object with the given name to creae the text. I've also seen collars that allow the master to speak for the slave.

From: Kidd Krasner Presumably it rezzes an invisible, temporary object with the given name to creae the text. I've also seen collars that allow the master to speak for the slave. no it just changes the name of the object it's in... Many huggers use this feature.... IIRC the collar thing uses's llDialog... so the slave/sub still has to press a button to allow the text.... and many makers of "pets" (shoulder riders, followers, etc) use this to give the pets speach (in green) FYI default green text is from object, BUT it can be either pulic or just to you.... yellow is an object you own, and only you see... the better(and newer) attachment makers use yellow so objects don't spam general chat..... older stuff didn't have that option, but there is no guarantee it pubic or just to you... mnay vendor use green private messages (no other choice for private non public spam of non owners) I personally use this trick to make a visitor announcer that tells the owner if someone came to X location and it sends a message to owner that looks like "avatar so-n-so @ location" and it doesn't ever spam repeats uless the av comes back
