Is there anyway to make your own music stream server to use with winamp or sam broadcaster to play a music stream on sl without renting one?

Do you have your own server on the net? It is much easier and cheaper to rent a stream, trust me.

The server is called shoutcast. You can google it to find a download. You can run it on your own computer.

HOWEVER, you can get at most 2-5 listeners connected before your connection craps out. You will not be able to handle listeners on a residential connection.

So, rent one.

Set up your own domain name that you are hosting on your own dedicated server online, and you can absolutely set up your own Shoutcast server instead of renting bandwith on somebody else's.

Practical? That's another issue, but the answer to your question, and the above is how you do it, if you're interested in the investment of money and time required.
