Since Linden staff decided to close the JIRA issue that received the most votes ever, I have opened up 5 subtasks, based on the *technical changes only* raised during the discussion. They are as follows:

MISC-2911 Provide content filters for SL client
http://jira.secondlife.com/browse/MISC-2911

MISC-2910 Provide Parental control features
http://jira.secondlife.com/browse/MISC-2910

MISC-2909 Fix Search Filter
http://jira.secondlife.com/browse/MISC-2909

MISC-2908 Fix Error Messages when Searching for Adult Content
http://jira.secondlife.com/browse/MISC-2908

MISC-2907 Fix Known Bugs in Account Verification system
http://jira.secondlife.com/browse/MISC-2907

(They can be reached from within 2727, or individually).

Please take a look, discuss, vote, etc.

(Note, I appear to have been suspended from editing JIRA issues due to this)

Why you don't just reopen it? It's clearly not resolved.

It seems to me that these subtasks look a lot more like technical issues, they are scoped so that can be attacked in the context of LLs plans -- as opposed to a single issue railing against a monolithic policy that seems to be already cast in frozen carbonite at Linden Lab -- and they are also much more positively stated: provide, provide, fix, fix, fix as opposed to "Terminate". LL is gonna go ahead with this. It has become clear that no amount of protest will have any significant effect on that. We're at the point now of preparing ourselves for how we will adapt. It's in our best interest to keep them from screwing up it TOO badly.

/me goes and votes.

Despite what the JIRA rules say about it, LL doesn't like it when closed JIRA issues are reopened. They'll even suspend you if they think you reopened a closed JIRA (happened to me once) See http://jira.secondlife.com/browse/MISC-2723

The only thing being closed does though, is prevent new votes. Comments, attachments, and even patches are still permitted. I'd recommend doing what we did with 2723, and just comment the heck out of it. LL can't do anything about that. :D

My alignment is "lawful evil." :D

Well put together and have voted on them all :)

Hope that you have listed them on the SLapt.me wiki as well

Oh well, they even permanently banned, but that was Prok and I think that's for the better of this world :D. Although I do not agree with that decision based on what happend in Jira.

Actually, it looks like they suspended me from editing JIRA issues for posting the subtasks. I think thats pretty petty, since all I did was extract the technical changes that came out of the long comments thread, and broke them out as separate items to be addressed.

(I had not gotten any message about being suspended, but one of my alts can edit, and I cant)

Hmm, that's pretty amazing if true. I thought the new tickets seemed to be a very reasonable collection of feature requests that were perfectly appropriate for the jira.

YIKES :(

Thanks for taking the time to break out the individual issues and open JIRAs on them. Really sorry to hear that LL suspended you for documenting valid concerns.

two quick points/questions..

put links?

can you get inworld? I gather suspension from some jira functions doesn't usually equate to much but just check. anything is possible at the moment.

Links added for the link impaired :-)

Yes, I can still log in. I would be *very* upset if I could not.

I wonder if them being a subtask was such a good idea? Maybe if they were at a higher level and not part of "STOP ALL" they would get more attention and/or not annoy the people in LL who still make the (stupid) decisions.

They have their own JIRA numbers, and can be found by searching the system. To start with, I thought linking them to 2727 would help them get some attention, since that issue is so popular. Once they get some voting and comment history, fully splitting them off would be sensible.

Doing what is right for my fellow residents, such as publishing the secret words list, and documenting how the 1.23 software actually works WHILE AT THE SAME TIME annoying the hell out of Linden staff who are making bad policy is my idea of fun.

I have nothing against the majority of the Linden staff, only the ones who have decided to meddle in our community without actually understanding or being a part of it.

Yikes! That is some bad juju there!

This just proves beyond doubt that, not only is LL *not* interested in truly hearing its community's concerns (and not just paying lip-service to them) or re-thinking their stance based on such community concern; but they are NOT above crushing any attempt at organized protest against these policies! Tienanmen Square, anyone?

Not surprising.

This is as it has always been and ever shall be the way LL works.

Unfortunately for anyone trying to squash dissent in SL, it is a highly communicative medium, with many channels to pass information. I have a lot of friends, and a lot of alts :-), and an independant website to post things on.

Aside from the value of those new issues as technical issues in their own right, it would be very amusing and satisfying for me to see all 5 become as popular as the original. I don't think that will happen though, they are not as emotional as the original one was.

And now the issues have been Hijacked
06-12-2009 05:54
They have been moved to a new category: Archive, and the reporter changed to Alexa Linden, and closed to comments.

http://jira.secondlife.com/browse/ARVD-1

For the technical issues that came out of the original, that's just wrong. They are just as valid as all the other issues in the JIRA.

For Alexa to claim herself as the reporter, and therefore who wrote the issue description, that's just a flat out lie.

Also documented here with pdf copies of the JIRA at several time points.
