Hi,
I made a mistake in typing the name of the person I wanted to pay for some fine work. I have checked and there is no one in SL by the name I actually typed, but the L$1000 was still subtracted from my account. I can't find anyplace to send a request for a fix. Where would I look for that?
Thanks

Probably put it a support ticket, they'll probably refund it.

In your support ticket be sure to include information from your transaction history and hopefully you will get a faster response back.

Did you check your transaction history on Secondlife.com to see who the money went to?

How did you send them money if they didn't exist? I mean, what interface, the only mechanisms I know of to send L$ to someone involve them actually being there or having a profile...

If it did go to someone, you will be relying totally upon their good will to give you the money back.

I don't think there is any way to pay somebody by typing the name, so that makes it impossible to send a payment to somebody who does not exist.
The only way is to press pay on the person's profile or avatar, or click an object scripted to take money from you owned by this person. So, I have the same question as Argent, how did you pay that non existing person?

Thanks In order to give someone money you have to either, click on their avatar and pay, go to search and find them and pay from there, or buy something from them at a store etc. How did you pay someone without doing any of these things? The only thing I can think of is the person you paid decided to make their profile unsearchable asap, which has actually never worked for me as I have tried making mine unsearchable to hide from some crazies who like to make alts and harrass me. Unfortunately it never worked for me.

Unfortunately it never worked for me. The 'All' search usually takes a day for changes to go thru and the only way for a profile to disappear from the People tab is for the account to be canceled.

I can only think of convoluted mechanisms to even try to pay money to a non-existent resident.
One would be a third-party viewer (or bot) with a special, slightly brain-damaged interface.
Another would be an exceptionally unhelpful scripted object, where you'd pay the object (really, the owner of the object) and then the object tries to pay whomever you specify by name (really taking the money from the object's owner)--in which case, if it didn't find the specified recipient, it might be scripted to refund the money to the payer (good) or just ignore the error to the benefit of the owner (bad).
I know that all sounds daft--why would anyone want such a thing?--but can anyone think of another way to make the L$s disappear?

But no matter what or how it happened. It will be in your transaction history as Eli pointed out. Click on his link, sign into your account and on the left side under the heading "My Account" click on "Transactions History". When that page loads set "From:" to a couple of weeks ago and then click "View(up to 500)".

From: Argent Stonecutter How did you send them money if they didn't exist? The OP seems to have gone missing, but I am guessing what happened was... he/she wanted to pay someone and they looked them up in search but made a typo on the name and ended up selecting the wrong person to pay. For example, they wanted to pay Steven Bing and they ended up paying Stevan Bing.

From: Eli Schlegal The OP seems to have gone missing, Yeah that happens a lot, especially down in the content creation forums. New people post a question, read the first answer and think that that is all there is. Kind of hard to explain that SL can be so complex that it sometimes takes multiple posts from different people to flesh out the answer. Or that there can be multiple correct answers.
