Hi,
Ive suddenly starting seeing a large round "blob" on the heel of my shoes.
Im fairly sure it wasnt there before and i cant see anything in the menus i might have clicked to turn it on.
Ive searched forums for "blob" "heels" etc and cant find anything...
Does anyone know whats going on?

Dammit, Brenda, stop dropping your gum on the ground!

Seriously though, this sounds like it might be a sculptie shoe. They first appear as spheres or blobs when you TP from place to place, or put them on. They should resolve into a real shoe-like appearance sooner or later.

Are the shoes made with sculptie prims. When things are slow rezzing, sculpties will appear as blobs or spheres. This usually corrects itself fairly quickly.

better than sculpty hair....

I've been in slow rezzing malls where some women's heads seem to be in the process of being eaten by a large pile of mashed potatoes.

Reminder to sculptors...
64x64 is MORE than enough detail, and loads 4x faster than 128x128, 16x faster than 256x256, and 64x faster than 512x512.

It could be your feet are too large and are showing through the prims or invisiprims of the shoe. Try checking that your feet are set to size zero.

You also need to check if you are wearing the linden shoe base that comes with prim shoes. This shapes your foot so that it fit correctly in the prim shoes.

I agree that the sculpts and the shoebase sound like a good guesses. It could also be the invisiprim used to hide the foot mesh of your avatar when wearing high heeled shoes. Invisiprims show up more against some types of backgrounds (such as anything shiny, and often against a darker color more than a lighter color). This could explain why you haven't noticed it before.

I took off my shoes yesterday and I noticed my back of my ankles I had weird pointy protrusion. I figured its cause SL is being buggy and laggy.
Sculpty prims sometimes load slowly and and shapes look like eggs hatching before the intended shape shows...never had the blob look though.

The invisprim thing sounds like it might be this.

On closer inspection its more of a transparent cylinder object around the heel graphic. Its on its side and the curve of the cylinder edge is the shape of the instep of the shoe....

I'll have to try and grab a screenie when im next in game...

It definitely sounds like the invisiprim problem then. I'm not sure what you can do about this.
I can see the not-so-invisiprim when I am over water, but when I am at the hangout it seems to go away.
Are you seeing this in just one area or is it wherever you go?

I'm probably merely varying on Nimue here but some shoe shapes seem to have an 'alpha layer' element to them which show up against a background. Similarly with a certain background, some prim hair goes transparent where it sticks out from the skull outline.

This is the "invisiprim" and it's more than "alpha layer"... It's sort of an "alpha layer eater" : anything behind it that contains an alpha layer won't show. So, it's ideal for hiding avatar skin, like foot parts sticking out when "high heels" are worn. But it's also very good at hiding floors that contain an alpha layer, so it can look Pretty Strange when examined closely on a partially transparent dancefloor, for example.

Yup.....invisiprim. I've always noticed it with my shoes....depending on where I am....I'll get a glowing block at the heel of each foot. It's not really a big deal.... it's just one of the graphics glitches that there isn't any way around...... yet. Sculpti prims will look like a solid egg...as people have already said....invisiprims tend to just have a transparent glow to them. (but, if you're as disturbed by the look of avitar bare feet as my friend seems to be ...lol anything is better than barefoot)

"I took off my shoes yesterday and I noticed my back of my ankles I had weird pointy protrusion."

FD, you took the prim attachment parts of your shoes off, but you are still "wearing" the shoe base. It's what makes high heels high and no heels low. :) You'll want to removed that through the take-off-clothing menu.....unless you like pointy heels. :)
