OK.. people keep saying that banlines are super ugly... whats so horrid about them? Seriously. You don't see them until you're pretty close to them, you can see THROUGH them, and they are kinda flashy, so they arent always there anyway.... I don't see how they're so ugly... I think they look better than a giant brick box around someones property....
I won't even be here to read responses until a LOT later.. but I will when I can

That would make avoiding flying into them a lot easier. Though, I am not a fan of banlines at all... with the exception of individually banning people. Security devices work best for general security anyway... especially for skyboxes. But banlines... pain... in... the... a$$

If you had a home on a 512 plot and your neighbour had banlines up, it would not be a pretty view from your windows which would play havoc with the alphas and you would probably be able to see them sitting on most parts of your land.

One of the many reasons I feel banlines should be restricted to banning individuals, and security scripts should handle the rest.

I think there is a JIRA entry to make them less visible. I also think there is a JIRA entry to make them more visible. I like the idea somebody came up with lately (or maybe it's an old idea) that their visiblity should be some inverse of how fast you're moving. Walking around? They're hard to see until you're right there. Moving fast? You can see them far enough to react & avoid... edit: From: Burnman Bedlam One of the many reasons I feel banlines should be restricted to banning individuals, and security scripts should handle the rest. I don't think I could disagree with this any more than I do.

From: Meade Paravane I think there is a JIRA entry to make them less visible. I also think there is a JIRA entry to make them more visible. This doesn't surprise me at all... there are some extreme opinions on both side of most SL debates. From: Meade Paravane I like the idea somebody came up with lately (or maybe it's an old idea) that their visiblity should be some inverse of how fast you're moving. Walking around? They're hard to see until you're right there. Moving fast? You can see them far enough to react & avoid... That's a pretty decent idea, actually. Since they lowered the draw distance on those things... they have become much more of a problem than they used to be. From: Meade Paravane I don't think I could disagree with this any more than I do. I'm almost afraid to ask why.

There are enough glitches to support having the option for both really (both always visible and always hidden).
If the border of your land is an incline of say 20m to 24m, the "access restriction" stops showing at 70m up even though it actually extends to 74m on the sim.

From: Meade Paravane I think there is a JIRA entry to make them less visible. I also think there is a JIRA entry to make them more visible. As different people want different things, and even the same person might want different things at different times, it makes sense that ban line visibility should be a user preference and/or view option in the client. Give people the option to see them or not, and to change the distance from which they are visible. You could even give people the option to select what texture will display when ban lines are visible. (I think I remember someone here telling how you can do this now by replacing the texture in the config folder.)

From: Burnman Bedlam I'm almost afraid to ask why. Because a consistent scheme from LL is better than a having 27 different schemes from assorted scripters, half of which spam people not on their parcel, half of which use fast repeating sensors to look at everybody on the sim and half of which are so badly written that they stop working after a few days. Sims already know about parcel settings and they're the things that control where an avatar moves to on the grid. Why have scripts chewing up sim resources to do something that the sim is in a far better position to do?

I agree that there are some bad systems out there, but there are also some decent ones. Besides... people who use banlines without concern for neighbors or other SL residents who ARE minding their own business are far worse than any security script that blabs once in a while. Oh... and you can mute those. From: Meade Paravane Sims already know about parcel settings and they're the things that control where an avatar moves to on the grid. Why have scripts chewing up sim resources to do something that the sim is in a far better position to do? Because banlines are becoming more of a problem, in my opinion. Hell, between all of the restrictions that have been added, coupled with people's paranoia, SL is becoming more and more difficult travel. We were better off two years ago.

Agreed .. it should be a clientside toggle whether you have to endure teh visuals .. teh end result would still stop you from entering private parcels without insulting your eyeballs.
