Yes another "Is if considered cheating article", will the question ever really be answered?

The question has been answered time and time again, the problem is people don't like questions which have multiple answers.

I'm afraid this one will continue to rear it's ugly head forever.

Nothing new there at all - no new insights, asking a question that simple, without any real background... waste of time...

The only thing that is for sure about this topic is that it leads to a locked thread.

I think I want to cheat with Yummy's Badkatz sig...

Think this one is the all time lame of recurring thread topics.

This little snipet is actually from the same article as two cheating threads back.

The reason I think its lame is the fact that people try to use the fact that "Second Life" is new to propose that internet affairs are somehow a new problem.

When of course online cheating dates back to the dawn of the internet and was widespread and similarly sensationalized 10 years ago.

After 10 years I figure the whole "OMG look at this online cheating thing" novelty should have worn off.

And definitely shouldn't have been weird enough to make "news of the weird" - the editor is slipping.

My guess is many bloggers and news wire service contributors actually secretly play Second Life.

I mean consider - they spend a lot of the time on the internet. With their job its a necessity. The idea is they just sit and read other news articles most of the day doesnt seem plausible

I am bumping you to an 8.5 on the Official Trout Measuring Instrument of Sluttiness. You are an enigma - on the one hand a sweet, gentle, intelligent woman who we would like to wrap up in our arms and protect, and on the other, a temptress to whom we would like to do all sorts of unmentionable things.

Congratulations and shame on you! You are a bit of a slut.

Hi Colette, much as I share your view on digging up old threads, I have a question.

My almost entire knowledge of the online world 10 years ago was my much repeated (by me) Starship Titanic forum and ICQ Instant Messaging.

I've waxed lyrical of my meeting Morgaine on the forum elsewhere very recently so shall not repeat too much I hope. Between this and ICQ we formed a friendship which developed to meeting IRL. Now engaged but still living apart a short distance we correspond in ICQ still but also SL.

Now whilst the SST game itself was standalone, we forum posters might stretch to a rapid-fire ICQ multiple window for fun. While delving into friendly banter and some flights of fantasy, pretend safari trips, rescuing the damsel in distress etc, any appeal of eroticism was a long way away.

Now we have SL. Even when we both are in-world, by the very physics of the world and the addition of graphical representation there is a *huge* erotic appeal. Whether you 'do the pixel thing' or not, the very representation of beings and let's be honest here, how many of us have tried to make ourselves sexually appealing? (OK a lot missing the mark but hey!) Little wonder then, so many people get sucked into a virtual libido.

My question; being a tad out of touch with the bleeding edge this last decade, were avatars this attractive ten years ago? If not, then I'm not surprised virtual cheating is on the increase now and attracting the subsequent notoriety and publicity.

I'm not blaming LL either .. it's part of our nature isn't it?

Mmn, wait until VR finally introduces physical attachments and then full body suits for your RL self. It's not that far off. Remember what market always drives the tech industry -- sex (and war, really).

This is not to say that all SL residents are into the sexual aspects, but there is quite a proponent, and a cash based one at that, who are. Just saying.

It dont think it ever was about the avatars - any "increase" you perceive really would be balanced out by the fact that due to technological limitations people were much quicker to move right on to sharing phone numbers.

I think the real reason its more prevelant is just that more people are online now than there was 10 years ago. So its not higher rate thing, its just higher volume.

I agree. It's always been there. It's getting press because the folks writing the articles are doing it themselves :D

It had to happen.

Let's see -- combine that with in vitro -- guy on duty overseas not only keeps wife loyal while he;s away, but gets her pregnant as well.

Anyone else here find it tedious when threads begin with a non-clickable link, and you have no idea what the OP is on about unless you cut and paste the URL into a new browser tab/window?

yes. I wish they'd fix the code. I usually don't bother going to the links as it is right now
