Allowed holdings: 16,896 square meters Current holdings: 0 square meters Available for purchase: 9,448 square meters Peak square meter usage: 7,448 square meters Total monthly cost: USD 40.00 Next bill date: Thursday, 02-12-2009
8192 was donated to the group...where does the 10% come in? and why does it say 16,896 sqm allowed? for $40...
Can someone explain this?

The 10% isn't noted on the website you can see it though if you open the group page in game and look at the Land & L$ tab. One thing I note (guessing a little here) is that you appear to have 7448sqm of tier donated to a group that holds 8192sqm of land. So in an indirect way you can see the 10% there. 16896 is 16384+512 which is quite interesting because the normal charge for that much tier is US$75 per month, not US$40. If I were you I'd double check your monthly fee because I think you'll find you have increased your monthly fee, maybe by accident. If you have mistakenly raised your tier from 8192 to 16384 then you probably need to change it back down again on this website: https://secure-web2.secondlife.com/account/landfees.php?lang=en and then call Linden Lab and beg them to help you out by reversing the change because they'll still bill you on the 2nd for the full amount anyway.

You probably have checked the box that says 16384 , so this is how much you can buy without getting the box asking you if you want to tier up. However you are using less, so you will get billed for less. LL changed this a while back, so you could "pre-approve" a tier level, but only get billed for the level you used.
Groups get 10% get extra and you get 512 for free.

Oh yeah, it's probably that. I definitely would change it back down to 8192 if I were you though. That warning is pretty helpful and it doesn't hurt to get an alert just before you commit to paying $75 a month.

You'll get hit with US$75 next month unless you can get LL to adjust your account.
It looks like you bought 8192m for the group and donated the required tier. The donated amount is calculated automatically by the system. It generated a donation of 7448m. 7448 +10% group bonus is 8192. The group gets the bonus on sq.m. donated to it. You never see any indication of bonus on your account. It doesn't apply to individuals.
You were on the US$40 (8192m) tier level last month, but you did something with land during this month that took you -- even for a few seconds -- over the 8192 limit. Your max tier used in a month is the max figure for land held + tier donations at any instant.
Lets's say that you started clean with no land, and the purchase for the group was what took you into the 8192 tier level. That would have left you with 1256m Available for Purchase on your account to buy land (or donate to groups). That's 8192 tier level + 512 free tier - 7448 donated to group(s).
All you had to do was buy 1257 or more land during the month. Even 1m over the 1256 availability would jump you into the next tier level. It wouldn't matter if you got rid of the land afterwards. One way of doing that without realising it would be to buy the land back from the group but not reducing your donation before you did so. It seems to be a fairly common mistake made.People buy back for a while to resolve some group ownership issue. It wouldn't matter if the group bought it back immeditely or quickly. For one brief glorious moment, you would have owed 8192 of land and simultaneously had a donation to group(s). That's an automatic tier jump.
That tier indicator on the web site has absolutely no effect on your tier charges. It simply sets a warning level at which you wish to be reminded of possible tier jumpswhen you buy land - for self or group.

From: Sling Trebuchet You'll get hit with US$75 next month unless you can get LL to adjust your account. Well, I thought that at first too but you can see it says "Peak square meter usage: 7448" so that makes me think that post #3 has the right idea.

True. A person is only hit with the cost of the actual useage, and not with the cost of the level that's selected on the webpage.
You advice is good - it is better to select the level according to actual useage, as it's better to have tier up warning than not have it.

From: Elanthius Flagstaff Well, I thought that at first too but you can see it says "Peak square meter usage: 7448" so that makes me think that post #3 has the right idea. Duh! You're right. I missed that bit.

I guess i can say its clear as mud, lol. Yes only 8192 was bought, and it was donated to group. I guess the higher tier level was hit in error, I'll see if I can fix that. I guess I wanted to know where the 10% bonus is...and it doesnt show, from what i see in the answers. lol...I'll go back and read more, and calculate a bit more. Hopefully i can wrap my head around it. Thank you all !

Yeah, it is all clear as mud, huh? The 10% group bonus never specifically shows anywhere, just in a calculated way. As Sling said, when you tell the system to donate the tier required for the 8192 group land and it calculates in the 10% bonus that the group is going to get and only actually had you donate the 7448 amount. The group is getting 10% more land than the 7448 donated tier and that 7448 is shown as your usage. If you click on the link for Group Land, you will also see the 7448 donated to the group there. That 10% calculation messes me up a lot.

What Lil said is exactly correct. I checked the Knowledge Base to see if there's anything to cite there--as if it were possible to actually link to an article there--but it's no help anyway.
To see the 10% bonus at work, about the best you can do is go to the Group Information window for the landowning group, and look at the information on the "Land & L$" and "Members & Roles" tab, and do a little arithmetic. First you'd add up all the numbers in the "Donated Tier" column for all "Members". That number will be the same as the sum of what every member sees in "Your Contribution" on the "Land and L$" tab--and the "Total Contribution" number on that tab will be 10% more than that sum.
