Space Navigator in the UK type question

Anyone in the UK know of a shop/chain that I can walk into and see a Space Navigator on the shelf ? There are several sources on the net doing them but I'd quite like to go see one 'face to face' and it's proving a bit more complicated than I'd thought.

It being a Logitech product I naturally assumed it would be available in loads of places. So when I walked into a branch of PC World yesterday - credit card at the ready - and asked the sales assistant, "Do you have the Pro version of Space Navigator by Logitech ?". I was slightly surprised to hear "We don't actually do that many software packages here" This wasn't the answer I expected ..but it did answer my question (in a round about sort of way).

The other question I wanted to put to anyone (not just UK) using Space Navigator is what are the advantages with the top end version in comparison to the personal edition, in other words is it really worth paying almost three times the price ?

Thanks..

The only difference between the pro version and the personal version is the price.

I do 3D CAD modeling for a living and love it for that purpose. I have used in some in SL, but so far it's something I could live with out in SL. That's just my opinion for course.

You can get them from Amazon, but I've never seen one on the high street.

As mentioned above, the Pro and Personal versions are identical. In fact, upgrading your license to Pro can be done purely in software once you have the driver installed, so it can be a good idea to buy a Personal to start with and see if you like it or not.

Good point Yumi, I should have mentioned that. The personal version can be easily upgrade thru their website.

Thanks for that folks I had always assumed there was a difference in the hardware, I hadn't realised it was only in the software. This is just the sort of reason I had wanted to see one before I bought it.

I know you can upgrade from personal to pro, but what is the dofference for the $300, does it use better drivers and better responsive or more programable?

A little light flashes and it says "I have the pro version" so your friends are impressed when they come round.

There is no difference between the two versions. The only difference is in the licence as to where it can be used, and the support availablility. The forum support is more than enough.

If you are using it home in a non-commercial environment you can use the Personal.

If you are using it in the workplace you are required to purchase the Standard.

From the Website :

From: someone
3Dconnexion offers two editions of the SpaceNavigator, SpaceNavigator SE (standard edition) and SpaceNavigator PE (personal edition). SpaceNavigator PE is priced at $59 (US$59) and is licensed for personal use. SpaceNavigator PE users get online support only through the 3Dconnexion forum. SpaceNavigator SE is priced at $99 (US$99) and comes with an unlimited use license appropriate for commercial purposes, as well as full phone, email and online support. Both products work exactly the same, come with a two-year warranty and are compatible with over 100 applications.

I don't know where the US$300 figure is coming from. The US$300 item is the SpaceExplorer, which is a completely different piece of hardware, with a built in wrist rest and extra control buttons.
