Mega Prims Can Be Hollowed and Cut but not sized, at least when you are the creator...

This is after the update...Just tryed it LOL

I made over a 1000 Mega prims and being able to Mod them will be even Better...

But if you try and resize them...They revert to normal size :)

Is a Mega prim anything that is greater than 10m on any one side?

And this means that I cannot change ANY part of the size? In other words, if I have one that is 50x5x2 I cannot change the 5 or the 2 without losing the 50?

Yes, and yes. That is, you can't change the size by stretching it or entering new numbers into the size box; you CAN "change the size" via things like path cutting or dimpling.

I dont know what the actual answer is.. I just know LLs response was at best...flaccid.

That's a very good way to put it, and now I know why we still haven't seen the promised blog entry...

...the Lindens are still waiting for their shipment of Lie-agra to come in to firm up their flaccid reasoning.

you cannot adjust them at all if you are not the creator..if you try to stretch them at all they will go to normal size

Um... sure you can. If they are mod perms, you can cut, twist, dimple, etc. Even the creator cannot change the size.

Awesome - thanks for the clarification. Since I have some that someone gave me that are modifiable and copyable, I have stuff that I can play around with.

Not even the creator of a megaprim can alter their X, Y or Z dimensions once created. Any attempt to do so will make them snap back to 10 M max size.

Any other adjustment, such as path cut, profile cut, hollow, dimple, hole size, taper, skew... you can do all of those, to any megaprim.

The "old megaprims" were initially a very limited number of sizes. Many of the commonly available sizes until just recently were cut or dimpled variations of older full-dimension megaprims. For example, the 100 x 100 x 2 was a dimpled 100 x 100 x 100 cube. Many of the old megaprims would rez well above the ground, because the 'bottom' of them was defined by the bounding box of their un-altered shape.

Be aware that some manipulations, like dimple and twist, can affect the percieved surface and bounding box in undesirable ways. That is why it's hard to rez things on many of the old megaprims. Because they have been tortured into other sizes and shapes, and you're trying to rez somethig on a cut or dimpled surface, or within the bounding box volume of the prim.

This past week there was a temporary server-side code change that allowed a number of people to make new megaprims, in a wide assortmant of shapes and sizes. If you don't alter them with dimples and other prim torture, they should act relatively normally.

The last server update closed that loophole again, and no more new megaprims can be created. The existing ones can be copied, however.
