I've been wondering about this for some time, and finally decided to just ask. Don't know why that didn't occur to me before (duh!).
Is there any way to copy only one item from a box into inventory? I keep a lot of my inventory items in storage boxes and sometimes don't need every thing in the box at a given moment. I do know that if they're items which I created and boxed on my own, then put into a storage prim, I can drag and drop only one box onto the ground. However, if they are items I've purchased and stored in a prim, I have to copy ALL of the items in the prim to inventory, even if I only need one of those items at the time. Then have to put all of the other ones back into the storage box.
Isn't there an easy way to just copy one item to inventory?

Edit the box, go to contents, select the one item you want, drag it to your inventory.
I do it all the time.

I've never had that issue with self-boxed items. I right-click>Edit, go to the Contents tab, and just drag whatever I wanted into Inventory.

Idiot alert, here! I never really bothered going into edit in those circumstances, always just went to "open". Dumb of me, I know.
So, if I'm opening my trees and flowers box for example, I can just take one tree out of there if I want, by doing it this way?

Yes you can Even if the box itself is no-mod, by the way, you can pull the contents out one at a time. Sometimes you get a warning that tampering with the contents can break things, but it doesn't actually stop you from doing it. -Atashi

You can also choose open, and drag individual items from a box. It works just like the edit window.

From: Darien Caldwell Strange, maybe it's something that's changed. I'm still using 1.18 client, do it all the time. Um...the one before this last one? Not sure..it's 1.19 something or other. Not at home to check right now...lol. I know that works on my own work which I've stored in a box I made. I'll have to try again, maybe it was just a glitch when I tried it. I appreciate the help on this, everyone. I probably wasted a lot of time when I could have used it for more interesting things on SL then re-packaging inventory items.
