Over the last couple of weeks, I noticed that Friends had dissapeared from my Friends list! Ok..so I know that if someone removes me from THEIR list, they also go from my list! So I wondering...what have I done to these people!!!
One of them is a real surprise ... so I contact them.."Did u remove me from your list?" Anser: "No!! Thought you removed me from yours!!!"
So I checked with other names that had dissapeared...none had initiated the removal!!
Is this a known problem? Anyone else experiencing it?

A similar thing has happened to me. I got an IM from someone on my friends list who had been offline for a couple of weeks. She said that I no longer appeared on her list. She was still on mine though.

Yup happened to me.

Half my friendslist disappeared on me overnight a while back. The reason I knew something had gone wrong was that my best friend had also disappeared off the list and I knew for a fact that that was not planned.

Took me a while to put it back together too.

I suspect this has happened to a lot of people. It's certainly happened to me, and when I asked my friends why, they all said: 'Because we no longer want to be associated with you. You have more embarrassing moments than any person we know!"

But seriously, unless you have a friends list of several hundred people, just contact them and 'make friends' again. It's not a big deal, certainly given some of the other problems people are having.

Given all of the other database problems in SL its not surprising that friends end up missing too.

I know of a lot of people who's accounts got deleted. I helped one friend get her account back, but she lost her inventory and had a newbie avatar. Yes, they have database issues.

I am experiencing it bit too. Sometimes it just takes a while for the friend list to rezz or its invaded by Hippos

 Okay, I've got to know. I've asked this before in another thread but no one answered. What the hell are Hippos? I've seen (Waiting) in my friends list before, but things go back to normal, eventually. The only Hippos I know of are cute and dangerous animals with weird teeth. Please do tell.

If they disappear, they simply defriended you. Luckily SL is not like other IM software. Friendship in SL is a mutual agreement that can be canceled anytime. Defriending does not necessarily mean that they are angry at you. If you have a HUGE friends list you might want to delete people you didn't have contact with for ages. But if the other person uses SL once a month and you were the only one on their list.. you get my point. If they ask "did you delete me" and attach 50 question marks and exclamations, I also tend to answer "no, I thought you removed me".

Edit: typos, clarification.

Hippo is very often my only friend. And he never never ever says "hi". :(

(iirc, Hippo is the original test account or something like that)

I have this issue, this is NOT people removing me from my list, as checks asking the question have all come back, no I have not removed you. If I wait for maybe 40 minutes, the list then fills up to its original level. Also this is happening with landmarks, now I ask you, can a landmark not want to be your friend anymore?

Hi Apollo and welcome to the forum :-)

Sounds like you're suffering from lag, if friendlist is slow to load.

Not true. I'm pretty sure that my own alts haven't defriended me. :D

There is actually a piece of code in the client with a comment of something like "A bug for users to find" that randomly replaces ";(Waiting...)" with ";(Hippos)" if the asset that is being waited on starts with one of a small set of letters.

It doesn't happen every time, like one in 10 chance or something and only for assets begining with a few certain letters.

Good to finally find out what (Hippos) are... I've had a few friends disappear and be replaced by (Waiting) and they always reappear later. My theory is that at the exact moment I accessed my "Friends" list, they crashed or were logged off. I'm only basing this on how often people seem to experience this (not me, Yay!) :o
