If you have enough Lindens to cover the tier in USD, why not sell the Lindens on the Lindex? LL will then take the USD balance on your account to cover your tier.

No, but I wish it was.

Are you really, really sure? I've seen several people say this recently, but my past experience has been different. One time there was a problem with paypal, and after monthly tier payment my account went negative a few dollars in the USD category. I sold some L$ and it was covered, which bought me some time to get the payment issue resolved... but i don't see why i couldn't just do that month after month, provided I have enough L$. If I can do it, why can't you? Why is everyone saying it can't be done? Did something change in the last 3 months or so?

It has never been possible to pay your tier by having L$ directly subtracted from your account.

It will probably never be possible because allowing that would give L$ established exchange value, contradicting and weakening the TOS.

Since LindeX existed it has been possible to pay your tier by converting your L$ into US$ and having that subtracted from your account.

Because what you did was SELL L$ and then PAY in USD. You did not pay your fee inworld in L$. Because that cannot be done.

Answer: No, not in-world. You must use the Lindex, which part of the secondlife.com website. Is that close enough?

First, log into the secondlife.com website, and place a sell order for enough L$ to cover your upcoming tier payment. L$ will be subtracted from your account immediately. When the sale completes, you will have a positive USD balance. LL will subtract from this balance FIRST, before charging your credit card or whatever payment method you have on file. In this way, L$ can be use to pay your tier.

Does this answer your question?

Okay, I see. I suspect that is just a technicality, from the OP's perspective. Let's find out.

Nevertheless, for non-mainland land, you can pay your tier directly in L$.

I don't think it matters.

the reasoning has to do with the difference between selling your L$ on lindex (tecnically selling a commodity to another user) and selling your L$ to LL, making it offically a form of currency...

what gets me is the whole Island scheme seems to spit in the face of that supposed reasoning

to me it seem like the real reasoning is more like:
ll makes better profit on mainland, because the sims are "already there" and no one would bother with SL if there were no mainland

but islands generate more lindex exchanges, and promote the growth of SL content without having to be as higly monitored as mainland, and aren't as likely to generate profit directly per user like mainland, so they cut them a break for self managment and expanding the content base

that's my theory anyways

Cool so if you own an island you acan do this and never have to take the money out of world? Cool, just need to be able to buy islands then with Lindens too :)

No, island landlords can charge their tier fees in L$. That's because legally they're separate private entities, and could rent you the land in exchange for peanut shells if they wanted. LL, however, would probably be taking more responsibilities on if they accepted L$ in lieu of US$ for pretty much anything.

No you pay LL your island fee in USD. If you own an island, however, you can charge your tenants in lindens, and then convert the lindens to USD using the Lindex to pay your tier -- the same as a mainland landlord would do. The difference is that if you "own" a parcel on an island estate, you generally pay your tier to the island owner in Lindens, so that makes it easier for some people.
