Ok, what is the official word on giant ugly land screens on property lines. I just saw some that are 40x40 mega prims stacked 120m high and are all an brick texture right smack in the middle of a beach waterland area and they extend the length of a sim. is that legal? seems like it is edging on the side of trying to make all the land for sale around that parcel unsellable. these have just gone up recently...previously they were 40x40 as are the rest around this giant parcel and those are a natural wooded type view. Thanks!

Mainland? If so, LL will probably allow them unless they're encroaching on other peoples property..

Private island? Talk to the estate owner.. They will likely become grumpy. (edit: but not grumpy at you)

they are mainland...its just looking to me like a clear attempt at making the land adjacent unsellable...so wondered if that came under any of the recent changes in rules maybe with the land cutters etc.

I had this from a pair of colluding land extortionists once who were attempting to extort me to buy their land next door. Huge megaprims first with a forest, then a stone wall.
I AR'd the heck out of them, LL were not interested at all. I had to put up with them for months before someone else bought the land and the extortionists moved on.

Yeah, AR them. The Lindens have been frowning (and demolishing) unreasonable builds. They can even use the 'megaprim' argument for the one you're describing.

You can try ARing them - sortofa crap shoot on if LL will remove them, though.

Best bet would probably be to nicely ask your neighbor to take them down. If they're dicks about it, use that in the AR - LL will appreciate it if you try to resolve the problem yourself before contacting them. LL will look at chat from the server logs instead of from the AR text so be sure to ask nicely..

Heh, my neighbor is a dick, but he only speaks French. Gave him a babbler, but he's too stupid to use it. Looks like war is comin' between us.

Are you next door to the place with Ban lines up?

This type of thing is exactly why I prefer private island life. lol We had a shop on the mainland with a clothing shop next door. (A mediocre one, at that. Was all original stuff, but I wouldn't put it on my list of best clothes in SL, though not the worst either). Anyway... I had set up our land so that our landing point was on the edge of the platform he had set up for our shop. That way, if people came to my place, they might see his shop and when they were done with my place, they might wander over to his place. And, the same might be true with his customers.

Everything was fine for about a month.

THEN, as our business grew - we were new, but it is a line of very unique (Adult) things in SL, so we grew fast and had no need to spend money on classified ads because there was no real competition for the search terms people used to find us.

One day I logged in and a giant wall (not 120 meters tall, but a huge wall nonetheless) was between our properties. It was very ugly - with his logo all over my side of the wall and an LM giver and on click it would take you across to his side with a sit teleport. On his side he had another wall was a nice picture that made his courtyard area look real nice.

It also rendered my small landing area very tight. SO I asked him about it. And basically he accused me of stealing from him. He spent L$25,000 per week on classified ads and I spent none. And my traffic was 10 times higher than his. (which it was). Thus, the only way this could possibly happen was that people were coming in via his ads and heading directly to our place. Thus, I was a crook and stealing his money (and he called me a few things I can't publish here).

The other sides of my place were equally blocked off by ugly, unappealing, horrible blights that I had managed to work around by how I set up my own structure, but now all four sides were trashed and my only option was to move everything inside an ugly box, or move.

We moved.

Never spent a dollar on classified ads for our first year of business. We now own our own sim. And he, last I looked, had no clothing store anymore. So, in the end, Karma does pay off. But there isn't a lot you can do about blight on the mainland. Buy land there and you are always subject to whatever the next person who moves in does.

You mean there is ONLY one place with Ban lines now?

No ban lines with these. and i have approached the owner in a very nice way....that did not go over well. LOL just seems like such a waste of beautiful land. they also have a set of about 19 bots there 24/7 on the beach...seems like those should be yanked sometime soon. thanks for all the input.

If you're lucky, he might be using a texture with some faulty transparent image mapping. By placing your own wall in front of his, with similar transparent image mapping, you might be able to make the wall "disappear". I'd only do that partially though, for example by using an own "scenery" wall with some see-through spots to glitch through his wall.

Is the land for sale? If it is, AR it as harrassment. If not, AR it as visual spam. It might not work, but then again, it might. won't hurt to mention the bots either :) hogging sim resources is reportable as well.
