I am in a university class, and we are trying to purchase a bot to welcome students and answer general questions about our learning space and about our island in general. We are willing to purchase one of Thoy's SL Bots, but not sure exactly what we will be able to do with it. We have limited resources at the university, so if anyone can please help, it would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Ask your Computer Science (or similar) department to assign building a bot as a project for an appropriate class. I started out thinking term project, but I think you could get something useful done in far less time, as long as it's not an introductory programming class. Over time, it could turn into a far more elaborate bot and knowledge agent.

Bot's are basically a stripped down client that's programmed to do whatever it's programmed to do. Some bots, camp, some bots, buy land, etc. If you wanted a bot to greet and answer questions, you'd have to have one coded to do that. Another approach might be to script an object rather than a bot to do the same thing.
