...If you look at Help:About Second Life, you will find a line that tells you the host on which your region is running. That will say something like sim1234.agni.lindenlab.com. If the number after “sim” is less than 2133, the region you are in is a class 4 region...

Didn't LL say, like a year & a 1/2 ago, that you could no longer figure out the server class from the sim's hostname?

If Propsero is right, it seems like llGetSimulatorHostname and a little string parsing can now tell the server class a sim is on..

Saw that but it seemed a little vague about the 2133 and up. Are all those class 5, or is there a mix of 4 and 5 in there?

I took it to mean sims 0000 through 2133 were on class 4 hardware but I guess he's not specific on what the higher numbers mean, except that maybe numbers over 7000 are all class 5 servers.

Doesn't really matter any more though.. /me quotes the blog comments:

Can you confirm that “If the number after ’sim’ is less than 2133, the region you are in is a class 4 region” bit please, Prospero??

I can confirm this right now.

But this statement may not be true next week.

I thought that LL declared that the server class could no longer be figured out via the hostname. This is sortofa FAQ in the forums…

At the moment, it can be figured out, but I wouldn’t count on what I just told you applying past tomorrow.

edit: I wonder if this rolling restart has something to do with moving some machines to the rumored datacenter in Phoenix...
