Chaos - make certain to cross-post this in the Building Tips forum as well...there may be some folks there who've encountered this, and may have found a solution.

Are you allergic to Building Tips, Chaos? Seriously. Most of us here won't know what AC3D is. Come on now.

I gotta tell you Cristalle- I know I should look at other places - but I never do unless someone says something to direct me elsewhere. If that post about linking stuff yesterday had not occurred- I still would not have known how to get started on prim skirts! And I have been actively searching for that one little bit of basic info since it occurred to me to try and make stuff! So while I realize that some of this stuff we see here is irrelevant to many if not most, I like the surprise stuff I stumble upon here. I have a love of serendipity :)

Just because AC3D has Second Life plugins, doesnt mean its the only 3D program compatable with SL...Maya is also very compatable...as far as for newer versions of SL, we may just have to wait until there is a plugin available. (and who knows, there may already be)... I just dont have the time to look for it at the moment...back to work!

I look at it this way. When I want to know something about building, I go to the content creation sections. I do not expect to come here and learn the inner workings of sculpties and the various programs. People that put their energy into building, scripting, etc. stay in those forums and will give far more competent answers than most here will articulate. And it annoys me that people continually come to the hotbed of consumers to ask building questions. Yes, some of the creators come here and look, but many don't. We are lucky that Chosen, Chip, Namssor, etc. actually read RA and interact with us, but my guess is that RA is not their preferred haunt. They may find topical questions thanks to the New Posts search.

Yes, the linking thread was serendipitous for some, but if you are not really interested in building (as many people here are not, they just want to enjoy SL as a consumer), you wouldn't care except for the few brief periods when it strikes you. And since that is not what RA is for, it would be better off in the forum where people actually care about it.

Oh no! You’re not asking me to go there and stay there are you? Those forums are rather boring...
So just a quick note here and I promise you, we will move on. (Don’t want to bore you!)

No, I'm asking that content creation questions be kept in the appropriate forum. That is all. The sarcasm isn't necessary.

Somebody made a post in Resident Wotsits today, and linked to a post in Scripting Tips today, and it was all about scripting! I have been actively searching for things about scripting in Resident Wotsits but I never found anything. It's like some sort of fairy magic.

Perhaps there should be a sidebar on these forums listing all the subforums, so no matter which forum you go to you can see links to the other subforums.

Choas, all my sculpties are coming up as partially alpha, or transparent. again.

i had this issue, it corrected itself, now it's back.

i say this because your recent issue might not be the program at all, but an SL glitch.

AC3D was a heavy metal band back in the 1980s. :D

Truthfully I go there but if I got problem or question with certain thing I know it is going to be hit or miss whether or not I am going to get much help or response.
Few times I have had Chosen point out things to help me out but often truthfully its not the case so personally these days if I can't figure something out or find it in search I don't bother.
And I sure in hell don't know what Chaos is talking about with the AC whatever it is...so sorry I can't help.
I understand why people post here versus there, part of it is habit they aren't use to go there.
I bet lot of things there no one even knows about truthfully and even when I find them they are often quickly lost.

It's definitely not AC3D, which hasn't changed. I don't know what the OP's issue is, but I just imported my most detailed sculpty created in AC3D and it worked beautifully. I even uploaded it into an alt account to make sure it wasn't already cached, and could not see any problems at all.

Absolutely, though it also does far less and isn't free like Blender. It's money well spent, in my opinion, if you are on a budget and can't justify the cost of something like Maya.

One thing it doesn't do that I *really* wish it did is texture baking. There is no facility for that at all, so you'd still have to resort to Blender or something else for that. I can't find it at the moment, but there was a recent thread on that topic as well.

Not sure about AC3D, but I know a blender is often easier to use than a food processor..

with Blender, read everything you can about it, follow step by step instructions for starting, then just start pushing buttons and moving things and clicking, and you'll accidentally figure out how it works. LOL

saving a usable product is a whole 'nother issue entirely. LOL
