Ok, yesterday I changed hairs, and the ribbons detached a 1500L scripted collar(chest) with a lot of custom animations, AO and others inside it, supposedly it was to be in my inventory as it always happens. But NO it isn't there! Now, the same happened with a gadget and a couple of hairs yesterday arround 7PM SL time, I've tried the "Clear Cache" thing, even tried to switch computer and also looked everywhere for the items, my inventory used to have about 8000 items and now, it has only about 7200 items. How can I avoid this? And now, is there anyway to retrieve those items?
Thank you.
*Edit: I just bought another collar and when I detached it the first time, it's also gone just like the other.

No, not really. but you can try putting in a bug report, and list all the things missing. maybe with what happened over the weekend, even though it was not LLs fault, they may feel just guilty enough to actually scan the data base for them.

But the third job, some call it, uh, "the show" or "the big dance," it's the profession that every linden aspires to.

I'm thinking it may be safer to be in world with my alt until this all sorts itself out so I don't lose anything valuable on my main. *sighs*

There have been a lot of reports lately that when you detach an object, it goes poof instead of back into your inventory, though this has most often been reported with HUDs.
And this is a relatively new bug in that it is now a fairly common occurance.

From: Jake Black I dont know what the actual answer is.. I just know LLs response was at best...flaccid. From: Solomon Devoix That's a very good way to put it, and now I know why we still haven't seen the promised blog entry...
...the Lindens are still waiting for their shipment of Lie-agra to come in to firm up their flaccid reasoning.

Since things exist in your inventory while they are attatched, try this experiment:
Create a cube take it into your inventory attatch it While you have your inventory open and can see it there, detatch it using the right click on your body or the inworld object method. Does it disappear in the inventory ?

I've just done the cube experiment and well it worked fine, the cube still there. Another curious thing is that, a friend just gave me a folder of animations, they all were there, after few minutes when I was trying to find it, the folder wouldn't load anymore!
Yes, my objects are going very often "poof" when detaching them, is there anywhere else that I should post about this? I'm really afraid to be on SL and next my avatar will be a ruth with no inventory at all..

Besides doing Clear Cache in the Preferences menu, go into your application data file on your computer and throw away the folder titled "Second Life" then empty your desktop trash (My computer<C: drive<Documents and Settings< your name)<Application Data<Second Life. It's your cache, but the "Clear Cache" command on the Network tab in Preferences doesn't always get rid of this file. Then log back in to SL and check for your missing stuff again.

Unfortunatly you are not likly to get much help from LL, beyond what they have written in the Knowledge Base Inventory: Complete recovery steps and information about perceived loss https://support.secondlife.com/ics/support/default.asp?deptID=4417

I had an attachment keep going poof whilst worn when I was editing scripts in it http://jira.secondlife.com/browse/SVC-1157Basically although attached and visible and fully functional it would suddenly vanish from the inventory (in my case when saving a script). This made it impossible to drop, and the only choice left was detach (and vanish)... Samm

I logged in earlier (after clearing cache last night before logging off) and found that about 1000 out 14,000 items didn't load. This has happened befoe and when I relog again, my items are back. But....the odd thing this time was my face illumination attachment was gone. I always wear it.....and it was not attached...nor was it in my inventory. I'm beginning to wonder now about this whole attached objects missing bit..... it's a little unnerving that they can disappear while you are wearing them!
I haven't created a bug report (yet) because hopefully when I log in later the items will be back. But.....even if I created a report.....I have no idea how I'd figure out what was actually missing cause I have so much sh** LOL

Hubby lost two very expensive HUDS over the weekend...did all the things for a "perceived" inventory loss...they're gone. We have a ticket in, but I'm not hopeful.

Database problems, Every Single Day.... WHEN does it stop? WILL it ever stop?? If the userbase keeps growing it will always cause problems, maybe we should all start packing our bags and sell everything and leave... Perhaps purging ALL the inactive users would free up some space in the database? I mean.. look at it: Residents Logged-In During Last 60 Days 1,292,114 Less than 1.3M users logged on in 2 months time, most likely not many more people would still log in after 2 months of absense. Total Residents 13,165,979 That makes at least 10 Million inactive users.. Multiply that by at least 1000 items per inventory. Could free up 10 Billion database entries. 3 Million active users remain, each 10k items average in inventory? Would be 30 Billion entries... 30% of the database would be gone At Least. /so far my rant for today and I crawl back in my silence cave now sorry

Well the nice euphemism 'unhappy database' is already a nice way to reduce database load, you just loose some items - guess millions - , but mostly not of the newbs that never come back, but more from paying or active users.
Despite all promises this message should be a horror warning about the state of SL : [13:23] Unable to create requested object. Object is missing from database.
And yes loading inv and missing items can be sometimes cured with a cache clear and reload. But what is that worth if items are in inv but not in database????

My stuff is back. Weird....this has happened quite a few times.....always after I clear cahche....and yes I wait for inventory to load and so on....been doing this for a year.
Stuff will be absolutely AWOL....and then the next time I log in, it's back. I don't get it. But.....I know one of these days the absolute inventory loss is gonna catch up to me....it's bound to. *shrug* Every time I buy something new I wince...'will this be the thing that disappears' but I know the risk already....so it's my choice to buy or not. As long as I don't lose my good hair & skin and my great white shark....I'm cool. lol

As long as I don't lose my good hair & skin and my great white shark....I'm cool. lol If your stuff is copyable and you have a home, I'd suggest you create a prim box (just 1 prim) and put copies of your favorite stuff inside and keep that box in your house. So if the item disappears from your inventory, you can always get it out of the box again. That is the only thing I can think of which might help. EDIT: Or you could put it inside an existing prim, like a picture on the wall or something. Doesn't matter, and that would save space & prims too lol

Lost another one ("Barbarian Princess" from Amethyst) after ataching a necklace to my spine... ok, I am not going to buy another one... It's ridiculous!
No.. I've tried to clear cache and switch computers... No.. I didn't drop it accidently in my own house and I would've know if I did.. No.. It wasn't invisible.. No.. There wasn't any script in it that could cause it...
Yes.. I'm very upset *sighs*

so you replaced the collar with a necklace and it disappeared from inventory? hmm havent had that happen
what i suggest doing is clearing cache log out of sl delete your sl cache folder completely empty trash reboot your computer
i know it seems like alot to do but ive seen it work in fact i had one stubborn item i was not willing to just give up on
i repeated the above steps 4 or 5 times the item i had "lost" ended up back in my inventory
edit to add: i am curious if this has anything to do with total inventory size?
how much do you or any of you that have lost bunches of stuff ..total inventory do you have?
