Recently there has been some talk about a possible AIM HUD (a hud that aims your gun or battle vehicle at a selected target) that some poeple use in battle sim's. Do they exist? One person was accused of using one and I'd personally like to know if they do indeed exist and also how to detect them to prevent further violations.
Thanks.

there is like a ton of weapons in sl that will annihilate a whole sim worth of avatars at the push of a button, you don't even need to aim these days. Seems today having to aim is a design flaw.
As to detect them, you can't.

At the Christmas Snowball fights with the Lindens, they were giving a free snowball thrower that had a crosshairs that worked in mouselook ... I never use anything more violent

There's no way to detect them, as HUDs aren't required, a custom modification to the viewer (since it's open-source) will be much faster and more effective.

A gun that allows aiming would have to use the avatar's rotation, and sadly we aren't able to rotate the avatar using scripted objects, so I think you don't have to worry about HUDs. Maybe if somebody sat on something, that could auto-aim them If the guns are modifiable, someone could replace the script and make it fire directly at others instead of in the direction the wielder is pointed. If you've got that out of the way, there's client modification like Haravikk mentioned.

so the question is... is there anything out there that someone can use to automatically aim at someone even if they are flying a craft?

Me too, Travis. I don't use AIM, but where AIM goes, the rest are sure to follow!

You could definately script a HUD to scan for people, click a button, choose that person, the HUD send their key to a rezed bullet on a unspecified channel, now that bullet scans for the AV and keeps moving toward them. Even if they move the bullet re-targets their position until it finally hits. Not hard really, but working it from HUD to gun to bullet would take slightly more work.

I would imagine this sort of thing would work if you were flying planes on a battle sim?

To point your avatar, I doubt it, but if you sat on an object that object could easily be scripted to do that. bike, car, plane, box, it doesn't really matter. so if you are talking about a object you sit in , yes definately. If you are talking about your AV by itself, I do not think so.
*edit*
to detect this.. If it is from a HUD to vehicle communication you could try for a channel scanner. and see if it can pick up the non open chat "chatter" however this can be very difficult to get and hard to get the right channel picked up.
make your own and see if a couple things happen. A if you fly by and are getting hit from odd angles, the bullets are being auto aimed to you. or if both planes keep flying towards each other and you constantly bump each other, then it is a safe bet both planes are programed to point to the target.
Now either event mean you as well must have such a programed vehicle.
well ok, maybe the first one of being hit at odd angles is possible to see in a normal vehicle but the second would need a modified one.

where would you find such a script and is there any possible way to detect it?

From: Shayna Korobase where would you find such a script and is there any possible way to detect it? I would have no idea on those. The only detection I can think of is what I explained above. I do think there was a client or Item that could allow you to see scripts that are on a item / avatar. I never looked for this myself so have no idea about it.

One thing to help might be to turn on highlight transparent, which will make any bullets much more obvious. Readers may or may not be aware that bullets are usually long thin objects, to make sure that they actually score a collision even if moving quickly - because of the way the physics framerate works, a small fast-moving object may just go straight past something without colliding with it, appearing in front of and behind it.
Anyway, if the ghostly red bullets look like they're moving towards you rather than in a straight line when you do this (well, a slight curve downwards, there's always gravity, but you know what I mean) you'll know something is wrong. But it's hard to spot and it could be done subtlely - only making a slight adjustment, so that the bullet wouldn't chase you all over the sim, but if the person was slightly out in their aim the bullet would compensate.
Or, well, there's nothing to say that a bullet actually has to fly out of a gun straight forward _anyway_. There's no way you could tell whether the gun wasn't firing the bullet at the exact rotation required to hit you.

Today I was flying and I got too close to a space ship that procceeded to launch missles at me. Fortunately my ship was able to out run them but they followed me for at least 30 seconds....LOL
