I am considering starting a support group. Not a group that owns land, just a group that might meet weekly (or whatever.) Think of something like AA, that kind of meetup idea.
How does one go about getting that started in SL?
By the way, I can't find a support group of the sort I'm interested in in the Search menu.

You'll want to choose the name of it very carefully, because you'll be stuck with it. Consider any legalities that apply as well, and what keywords someone would use when searching for your group. Currently the words "second life" cannot be part of the group name, but the world "second" by itself can be. I've been running a mixed social/support group now for over two years (Bisexuals in Second Life) and we're doing pretty well, all in all. If I had one single piece of advice it would be, don't get discouraged if attendance seems small. If your group is open to the general public, your demographics will probably parallel those of SL as a whole in terms of concurrency and turnover, both of which are pretty bad. Don't let this make you think you're not succeeding when you are. I have lots of ideas about running a group and the group tools, and about promotion, so if you'd like to talk about it more with someone who's been there, please feel free to IM me in world with questions or ask away in here. Good luck!
