I just crashed while moving a HUD from one folder to another in my inventory. The object has now disappeared from my inventory.
Is there anything I can do to try to recover it?
Apart from the no copy stuff it contained, all the work I put into makng it is gone too.
Thanks.

Try searching for the name of the HUD? It may have ended up in a folder other than the one you intended to move it to.
If you had two inventory windows open, you also MAY have dropped the HUD in-world, rather than moving it in inventory. Check the area you were standing in when it vanished.

Sorry, LL won't let me tell you where I sell my textures and where I offer my services as a sim builder. Ask me in-world.

Thanks, but I've done that already without result.
The crash happened just after I started dragging it; the cursor turned into the red circle with a diagonal bar, the viewer froze for a few seconds and then blinked out.

check the area where you were standing with view transparent turned on. Many HUDS have a completely transparent sides adn you would only see it from the right angle if it was in world.

From: Del Wellman I did this and ended up putting it in the wall of my house. lol I've done that too... accidentally transferred the contents of my HUD into the contents of a wall of the house. Bizarre. The HUD object itself is of minor concern; it's the contents that are important.

Thanks everyone, but the HUD very definitely is not anywhere in the vicinity of where it was lost, nor is it in my inventory.
What I need to know is if there is any way of recovering it from the depths of the SL database.

First try getting an object scanner and scan your home for the HUD (hopefully you remember it's name). Metabolt also has a nice object list of everything in range of you that you might try using. I'm sure you can script or buy something that does that same thing.
If your inventory really *did* eat it (very possible and common) then you have a couple options: 1) Clear your cache, close SL and restart. This doesn't usually work. 2) Give up and when you come back a few days later it'll probably be back in your inventory. 3) Submit a ticket for lost inventory and if you're lucky, the tech who picks up your ticket will run some sort of database process that fixes the glitch and your inventory item will show back up. I've gone this route twice with success and LL was very prompt.

Thank you all for your advice.
The ticket to Linden got a reply; I was instructed to to clear my cache and relog into a Linden region called Pooley and to reload my inventory. I don't know if anyone had to press any buttons behind the scenes.
But it's worked, and I also got back a few things I'd lost months ago and forgotten about.
