I sold my land to the bots out of desperation because i needed the money in RL asap, I hate to do it now that the value is so low but oh well. After it sold i was lingering on the land for a little while talking to someone in IM. Then someone showed up on the land and banned me! Can bots do this or would this have to be an actual person? I didn't try talking to them, not a big deal really just wondering.

unfortunately, yes. once you sold the land, the new owners can do as they please. including banning you. sorry. but look on the brightside, would you really want to deal with anyone whose that asinine?

There's, uh, probably a lot of things you didn't know about lindens. Another, another interesting, uh, lindenism, uh, there are only three jobs available to a linden. The first is making shoes at night while, you know, while the old cobbler sleeps. You can bake cookies in a tree. But the third job, some call it, uh, "the show" or "the big dance," it's the profession that every linden aspires to.

No i would not want to deal with them this is true. Thats why i didn't bother asking them myself "Hey Whats the idea?! I was just wondering if the bot can actually do this or if it had to have been a person. And wondering why they would do this, maybe in case they get disgruntled sellers who unintentionally sold their land or something?

It is a kind of interesting question or really 2 questions, in my mind. 1. Can bots be scripted to ban the previous owner at the completion of land purchase? (Or perhaps everyone was banned.) and 2. What would be the purpose of that? I guess the answer to #1 is yes but I don't know enough about the land bot business to know the answer to #2.

a bot could do anything a normal user can, including banning

are you sure you were banned? the bot disabling public access to the parcel sounds more likely

I can't think of any reason a custom client couldn't be made to ban the previous owner (or, even easier, restrict access effectively banning *everyone*). And regardless of whether it was the bot that did it or the bot runner, it kinda makes sense - given the nature of the landbot business, it seems to me that the previous owner hanging around after a sale has a pretty good chance of leading to nothing but headaches and drama. I bet it's SOP to ban everybody for some period of time immediately after a bot sale.

It just seems odd to you because, in your case, you sold your land intentionally and with good reason and you don't seem likely to suffer from seller's remorse.

Could very well have been disabling public access, all i know is i was sent floating and it said you have been banned from this land. ALthough they were immediately up for sale so i don't know why someone would disable public access to land they have for sale.

I don't have a strong opinion either way about whether or not it makes sense to send someone orbiting after a bot buys someone's land, but its sort of a fine how do you do when you consider that i have just sold them a piece of land for an excellent price.

Oh I agree, and I didn't mean to take the other side at ALL, or suggest you were wrong to be miffed - it's just that bots sometimes buy land that wasn't necessarily intended to be sold to them, and in such cases the unscrupulous bot runner would do well to send everybody packing ASAP. It just makes (cold hard logical) sense to me if one is going to be in that type of business.

Also I don't mean to suggest that the particular person you were dealing with is of the unscrupulous type - he or she might very well be the type to be reasonable and undo mistakes etc. Rather, I bet land bots themselves are often programmed for this behavior.

All idle speculation on my part. I'm glad you sold your land quickly, and I'm sorry to hear you got banned for your trouble.

I do appreciate how you feel. Its bad enough giving up anything you're attached to. And then to be unceremoniously chucked out on top of that... thats a real bummer! /me sympathises

I understand i know what you're saying and thats what i suspect too that they don't want to deal with pissed off people who for whatever reason just sold their land at bottom basement prices, it does make sense yes. It would kind of be the nature of the business i guess.

Well thanks, yes it was sort of a slap in the face! Thats why i wondered if bots could do this or if it was a person, I could accept if it was a bot and they are programmed to do this, but if this was a person who did this after i just gave them a great deal on my land i would be rather insulted, not that its that big of a deal.
